Story time and shout out Bats & Black Cats!

As most of the neighbourhood kids know we have a giant spider at Shadowood that likes to spit venom as you walk past.

But did you know she lost her venom THE DAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN ? 😬😬
Thats right! I'm talking full melt down.. smoke where there shouldn't be 😆

So after calling around we soon discovered that replacement snow machines in the Newcastle area just aren't a thing.. lucky for us though the good people at JoJo's party hire on the Central Coast were more than happy to help us out with a loaner at short notice. So after a quick drive on Halloween morning our big spider was ready to go again and good thing too because she was an absolute hit with the little ones!

JoJo's not only hire equipment but are a costume and prop store as well as entertainment providers for your event.

Bats & Black Cats today marks Día de los Mu***os — the Day of the Dead — a vibrant tradition that honours those who’ve gone before us. It’s not about fear but remembrance, colour and connection.

While Shadowood Cemetery celebrates the eerie and the macabre, today we pause to appreciate the beauty in the afterlife — candles flickering, marigolds glowing, and the gentle whisper that love outlasts the grave.

As another Halloween comes to an end we would like to thank everyone that came to visit Shadowood Cemetery.

Everyone was just so polite and well mannered. It was such a pleasure to see so many fantastic costumes and people having so much fun.

As busy as the night was it went quick and unfortunately didn't afford many opportunities to for photos, so if your up for it please feel free to drop your fave pics in the comments 😊

Ole Joe Bones has his work cut out for him sinking Shadowood back into the ground but im sure he'll manage. As for us we will wrap this night up the same way we do every year.... by falling asleep to Labyrinth.

As the final hour draws down upon us allow me a quick word on safety Bats & Black Cats.

Ole Joe Bones has told me he's happy for visitors to Shadowood but not accepting any permanent residents!!

Please have a word to your little creatures of the night about road safety, Haunts on the Ridge is situated on a corner block and can become quite congested on this spooky occasion.

If your driving a hearse or chariot tonight please park down the street, we get hundreds of people.

YOU WILL NOT GET A CAR PARK OUT THE FRONT OF SHADOWOOD CEMETERY.

The veil between the living world and the other side is at its thinnest this evening and we don't want anybody crossing over so be safe and have fun!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN BATS & BLACK CATS!!!

We can't wait to see you all this afternoon in all your fantastic costumes in full Halloween spirit!!

● Cemetery gates open at 4.30pm for trick or treating.

● MCPD will be on deck to host a halloween sausage sizzle fundraiser that'll raise your taste buds from the dead!!!

● Due to the enthusiasm shown by the community to support the fundraising efforts of the athletes at MCPD they have decided that not only will there be a $1000 prize drawn live from the pumpkin patch raffle tonight but also a SECOND PLACE PRIZE of $350 as well as a 3rd PLACE DRAW OF $150.

● Tickets are still on sale online (message our page) or in person tonight so it's not too late if you want to be in the running for any of those fantastic cash givaways!!

After sustaining a little damage from the wind today and tomorrow's weather forecast Ole Joe Bones has decided to batten down the hatches and hook in with his groundskeeping.

Shadowood will be full steam ahead for trick or treating this Friday from 4.30pm and we can't wait see you all in the graveyard!!

Don't forget the athletes from MCPD will have your dinner sorted with their Sausage Sizzle BBQ fundraiser with cash and eftpos available.
