Animato International Violin Competition

Animato International Violin Competition http://internationalviolincompetition.com
The Animato International Violin Competition is for violin players 17 years and under.

Showcasing some of the Southern Hemisphere’s best young violinists, this event is a celebration of classical music and the next generation of talented performers. Dietrich Lasa, founder of the International Violin Competition, grew up in Germany. He joined the Tibor Varga Chamber Orchestra in 1972 and from 1982 he toured with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra throughout Europe, America and Asia. His

dream country was Australia, sparking his decision to resign from the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and to join the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 1985. Dietrich has also taught the viola at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. He has been involved in numerous performances (violin and viola) and recordings both in the classical domain and in the popular arena. Dietrich once teamed up with John Denver when he required a string quartet to accompany him, and on another occasion Dietrich accompanied Frank Sinatra. Since the mid-90's Dietrich has been director of Australia's popular 'Animato Strngs', serving string players in Australia and abroad. He is delighted to offer the winner of the competition the price of $5,000 (Australian Dollars).

The Sarabande from the partita 2 by Bach is not necessarily a piece to show off what you can do as an acrobat on the violin. It goes a bit deeper than that.

Dindin Wang was one of three 11-year-old contestants who took part in the second animato International Violin Competition. Their talents and commitment are truly amazing.

Today, the adjudicators chose not three, but four contestants to proceed to the last round. I thought that all seven contestants were great in their own way, and I can understand that those who were not chosen to proceed further feel a sense of disappointment. Although we repeatedly say that winning is not so important, it means a lot to many musicians and their parents.
