About last night.

Last night we came together to discuss the ins and outs, how and why’s of regional arts trails.

The overwhelming why came down to contributing to creating thriving communities.

“We see the immediate benefits to our communities when individuals invest in creativity - why not showcase that” Cath Carroll

“As we talk this evening - there must be opportunities made available for funding from different sectors, health, education” Jo Fay Duncan

There is growing research that investment in creating accessible, grassroots community creativity benefits us all.

“If you’re a national health service, or you’re a government, seeing even just a 2% increase in the overall wellbeing of your population is going to be really significant at that kind of national level.” Dr Helen Keyes

Keyes said that backing such activities would offer a simpler route for governments to improve the nation’s wellbeing than other factors that are known to have a big effect.

We hope that our governing bodies and the associated departments consider this simpler route, collaborate and invest.

All the trails are run by volunteers - for future sustainability - we will need support to create meaningful opportunities..

Health, Education, employment, small business and training, child safety, seniors, disability services, environment, science and innovation, regional development, tourism, communities and arts. The benefits are there for all, but there is only so much time for volunteers between full time work and family commitments to seek funding.

How do we make this simpler for sustainability and growth?

Visit the bowls club and meet the beautiful Maree McCredie and her gorgeous ceramic pieces.

On most days when at home you’ll find Maree at the wheel, throwing cups, mugs, bowls & dishes, or handbuilding with a variety of clays.

Maree enjoys incorporating delicately beautiful Japanese underglaze transfers or experimenting with different glaze colours & techniques.

She has been at the wheel for over 30 years and love to create functional pottery wares & jewellery. I never tire of the mystery & uniqueness of glaze combinations which produce intriguing results.

“I’ve lived at Amity Point (Pulan Pulan) for most of my life & as an avid bushwalker, hiker & photographer, I endeavour to recreate the colours of seascapes, bushscapes & coastlines in my glazing process.” Maree McCredie

We welcome artist and designer

Delvene Cockatoo-Collins
Stop 6 on the 2024 Straddie Arts Trail

Delvene’s work is far more than just marks on a page. It embodies a rich connection to country, capturing the Quandamooka soul.

Her pieces share the stories, culture, heritage and techniques of thousands of years, passed down from generation to generation by her mother Evelyn and grandmother Bethel.
