Congratulations and Happy 80th Birthday to Lyn Jeffrey who is now a member of the OBE club.
Lyn Jeffrey joined the Drouin Bowling Club in 1992 after Colin started bowling, he was enjoying his game, so she decided to join him as well. Lyn started only as a social bowler due to work commitments, then in 1995 she was able to play Pennant on Tuesdays as she started work at 5pm. Over the years Lyn made many friends and has enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships of others.
Colin and Lyn played Pennant Indoor bowls over many years, which included tournaments on the weekends.
Drouin was successful over those years, winning the shields. Lyn won seven Single Championships & ten Mixed Pairs Championships with Colin in the Indoor bowls . Over the time Lyn has won the B Grade, 100 Up, Ladies Pairs with Mavis Dunkley 1995. Champion of Champions with Ila Hine in 2012-13 then partnered with Sheryl Atkinson as a substitute when Sam was unable to play, they won Champion of Champion's 2017-18, then in the following year together. Lyn played in 3 Division 1 winning teams & a Division 3 Winning team.
She was a Junior Vice President to Gwenda Williams. She has organised R.S.L. Diggers Day lunch with the help of a wonderful team of workers for 15 years, taking over Ila Hine, also has helped out in the kitchen when needed, on the fish and chip nights.
Lyn was Chairman of Selectors for two seasons, succeeding with Division 1 winning the Group & playing off in Barham 2014.
Lyn's thirty four years at the Drouin Bowls Club has been very rewarding and throughly enjoyed her time at the club with many more years to come. She has made many friends who all love her, and she would do anything to help the club and her friends, Lyn says THANK- YOU to all the bowlers.

The Drouin Bowls club is saddened to let you know that Merv Appleyard passed away on 5th June, 2026. He has been a well loved and respected member of our club for many years, he is a true gentleman and is always kind and helpful to all members at our club. The women often made him vegemite sandwiches as he always helped in the kitchen, doing dishes, errands or whatever needed doing, he would go down on Friday mornings, on a Fish and Chip day and set up the tables. Our Merv had a huge appetite, no matter how full he was, there was always room for McDonalds. Merv was truly a nice person and a great asset to our club.
He is a beloved Carlton Supporter, always with the biggest grin on his face when they won, and not too happy when they lost.
GO THE BLUES
Have to say he also supported our club just as much, would always support the members and encourage them. Merv and Pauline and their mate Mary Hogan were our top supporters and never missed any of the Pennant games and Finals.
Merv and Pauline have been married for quite a number of years and together have enjoyed socialisng and bowling at Drouin Bowls club.
Merv loves his social bowls and played often on the Wednesdays and Saturdays, he also entered in the club events and did his very best, he also loved his pennant, which he played on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Merv was a member of the Division 6 Saturday Pennant team for 2023-2024 . They all did their club proud and won the Grand final against Longwarry, which was held at Morwell Bowls Club. It was an extremely hot day, and it had to be called off, which meant they bowled the next morning, having 3 ends to play, with 9 shots up they won over-all by 10. So proud of the team, Merv and Jim Purvis both in their 90's an amazing effort, as was the rest of the team. He has made many friends from all over Gippsland.
Rip Merv.

Congratulations and Happy 80th Birthday to one of our much respected bowlers, Lloyd Smith who has been a long time serving member, loves his bowls and is always joking around with everyone, ready to lend a helping hand, for anyone that needs help.
Lloyd was born in Mooroopona on June 11th, 1946, the family moved to Springvale where Lloyd started high- school. He had numerous jobs along the way until he joined the Police force in 1972, he found his calling as a Policeman training at the Police Depot and was in the last squad to graduate before the Police Department took over the new Police Academy. He then worked undercover and had a few postings before transferring to Glen Waverley Police Station.
On a routine police job he met Yvonne, a young single mum with 3 boys. They were married in 1976 and welcomed a baby girl in 1977. They are proud grandparents of 10 grandchildren and 7 Great grandchildren. Lloyd was then stationed at Alexandra, St Kilda, and Dandenong Traffic operations. He rode police bikes and drove Pursuit vehicles.
Lloyd and Yvonne lived in Rowville and Tynong North, moving to Drouin in 1987 where he began police duties at the Drouin Police station.
After leaving the Police force in 1994 he went into his own business with his son for a short time, then he spent the rest of his working life as a panel be**er at Mansons in Drouin and still maintains friendships with the workers.
It was here that he became interested in Bowls, he formed a team for corporate bowls called the Beaters. He then joined the Drouin Bowls club as a Social member, then as a retire he became a full member.
Lloyd has done various jobs at the club, serving on the committees and was a Selector and Chairman of selectors for a number of years.
Lloyd was a member of the Division 5 Premiership Team in 2015-2016. Both Yvonne and Lloyd worked in the bar, for a number of years. Yvonne can be a bit cheeky at times, but we all love her. Lloyd still enjoys his bowling and plays in Saturday Pennant teams, as well as enjoying his social bowls on the Wednesday.
They both like to be with good friends they have made through bowls, often going out for dinner, shows and holidaying in their caravans together. They are both keen to socialise and look forward to many happy times with their special friends.

Happy Belated 80th Birthday to Denise Hamilton who had her special day on the 8th May, she was born in 1946 in Richmond, and was bought up in St Kilda with her brother and sister. Denise enjoyed playing Netball starting at the age of 8 years. Then later in the years ahead she moved to Bunyip, she became a member of the Drouin bowls club joining in January 1999 and has been a member for 26 years, being her one and only club. Denise also had a go at Indoor bowls, doing very well she won the Ladies Singles.
Denise has been a very competitive bowler and has won many club events as well as doing well in Pennant teams and other bowling tournaments around the Gippsland area.
Denise and Dennis were in the mixed pairs for the Victorian State team which was held at Bendigo, they got down to the last 8 on two occasions and lost by 1 shot twice. Denise also partnered Cole Jeffrey in the mixed pairs and also did very well.
Being a good club person she assisted in Selection Committees, and was always on hand when needed. She also enjoyed making goodies for the catering events, mainly Tournaments.
A valuable member of the club.
