It was great to take part of to celebrate the legacy and future of design and innovation in .
Around 100 people braved the cold to get a glimpse of the precinct under construction from the rooftop of the neighbouring site at 191 Salmon Street, with sunset views to the Westgate Bridge and Port of Melbourne, then hear from a star studded panel about ways in which the legacy of design at Holden is helping shape and frame the reimagination of Fishermans Bend.
Dr Norm Darwin talked about the history of Holden and how the automobile shaped Fishermans Bend in the 20th Century. Harriet Edquist spoke about the significance of the design history and the highly collaborative and interdisciplinary practice of the Holden Design Studio.
Then Dan Hill from Melbourne School of Design, Michael Blancato from Kerstin
Thompson Architects and Matt Mackay from ASPECT Studios discussed how the industrial legacy, First Nations perspectives, circular economy and a reimagining of our cities in a post-automobile era are inspiring the future for Fishermans Bend.
Special thanks to our panel of speakers for sharing their insights and for everyone who joined us for this fantastic event.
Thanks also to our hosts at 191 Salmon Street and CBCo Brewing Port Melbourne
for serving locally made beers and other refreshments.
This event was presented as part of the Gateway to GMH project, a partnership between the City of Melbourne and the Fishermans Bend Taskforce at the Department of Transport and Planning
