Hi, I’m Sarah — the artist behind these bright, bold paintings.
I’m a vision impaired artist, mum of three, psychology and public health PhD student, and guide dog handler to Jimmy. My work is deeply connected to identity, memory, healing, and rebuilding a sense of self after vision loss.
I paint differently now. Some pieces come from residual vision, others from memory, emotion, movement, and the feeling of colour rather than what I can fully see. A lot of my work is intuitive — layered, expressive, playful, sometimes messy, and guided more by feeling than perfection.
You’ll usually find bright Australian florals, imagined blooms, childlike paintings, mixed media textures, and the occasional collage here. I’m drawn to colour, contrast, movement, and the freedom of creating without needing everything to make perfect sense.
A lot of my work explores identity — the versions of ourselves we lose, carry, rebuild, and rediscover through change. I often name my paintings after women or people as a way of giving each piece its own presence, personality, and story.
Alongside the art, I also share glimpses of family life, guide dog adventures, the creative process, and honest reflections on disability, healing, motherhood, and learning to navigate the world differently.
Art has become a way for me to reconnect with myself — not the version of me from before vision loss, but the person I am now. Messier perhaps, softer in some ways, stronger in others, and learning that creativity doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.
So whether you’re here for the art, the stories, the colour, or simply curiosity, welcome. I’m really glad you’re here.
Sarah
