Cajon is a spanish word which can be translated as "box" or "drawer". As a musical instrument they take the form a simple box drum that originated in Peru. Recently the cajon has had a popularity surge because it is a simple but effective, providing an incredible sound like a drum kit in a box. This box has been sitting in the shed unfinished for at least 18 months. I sealed it with oil and left it there until I found motivation to go back to it. The oil was a bit of an experiement to see how it would last and as you can see, its still shiny and new even after all this time.

Tas Oak body with 7mm plywood back and 3mm playing surface. Simple adjustable snare. Oil finish (Whittle Waxes Evolution Classic Hardwax Oil).
A couple of finishing touches to add, but it already sounds great!

Sorry, this one is NOT FOR SALE.

Thanks to Original sticker co. for the decals on the front and rear.

This box for a customer had the adjustable snare and front panel (and logo) fitted today and its first sound test .. deep, punchy bass and clean snare sounds - wish I could keep them all ;)

Looking for scrap timber or off-cuts of any hardwood or softwood boards roughly 15-20mm thick and a minimum of 200mm long for making reclaimed timber cajons and drums. (400-500mm+ would be better, but I will take smaller for experimental designs)

Prefer timber that is dressed as I don't have the tools or space to deal with rough sawn.

If you have anything lying around you don't need let me know please - last person who donated got a cajon made from their old floorboards as a gift, so you never know.
