FOR OUR SYDNEY FRIENDS…!
You should absolutely, resolutely, can’t-recommend-this-enoughly check out SCAB by the super-talented and super-award-winning slashie, Danny Ball () presented by this week only!
6:30pm Thursday 16 - Sunday 19 May.
Just look up the ATYP Productions page to find out more and book.
FOR OUR FRIENDS EVERYWHERE…!
SCAB is the recipient of the Senior ATYP Foundation Commission, which develops a new play each year that showcases the skills of actors aged 14–17. It will be published by Playlab, so if you have a group of young people keen to sink their teeth into something truly excellent - or just want to read quality new Australian playwriting - then get onto this one!
WHAT’S IT ABOUT…?
On this day every year the ‘Kappa Crew’ perform a sacred ritual in honour of Amalia’s sister, who died four years ago. They pool their money to buy flowers, wag fifth period, go to the cemetery and sing ‘All the Small Things’ by Blink 182.
But when the crew meet at the start of lunch, something goes horribly wrong… no one brought any money. No one has any money. A plan is set into motion — scab! The crew splits up in an attempt to find enough money to buy flowers, but scabbing money at Meadow Ditch High is not the only challenge they face.
Scab is a hilarious tale paying homage to the tenacity of young people who, when confronted with a lack of resources, become infinitely more resourceful than those around them.

Lab Kelpie is a theatre company dedicated to the production of new text-based work by Australian playwrights.
A not-for-profit organisation with a board of experienced and passionate industry professionals, we actively seek out works that engage audiences by interrogating with intelligence and vigour how relationships, power and politics function in the twenty first century.
As strong advocates of new writing, we support Australian playwrights by commissioning, developing, presenting, publishing and touring their work, encouraging our writers to take risks and inspire audiences with the themes and messages they want to explore.
“One of Australia’s most exciting independent theatre companies on the rise.” – Maxim Boon, The Music
Based in Melbourne’s iconic Meat Market complex, Lab Kelpie was founded in 2012 by Artistic Director Lyall Brooks and Creative Producer Adam Fawcett.
Our critically acclaimed production of Elegy about the plight of LBGT refugees was a Premier Event for the 2016 Midsumma Festival, while our production of Katy Warner’s A Prudent Man was nominated for Best Performance and won the WA Tour Ready Award and the Bank Australia Audience Choice Award from over 430 shows at the 2016 Melbourne Fringe Festival. It has since been nominated for a 2016 Green Room Award for Best New Writing, enjoyed a sold-out run at Fringe World Perth and was programmed at the Darwin, Brisbane and Hawkes Bay (NZ) Festivals.
Previous works have also toured to regional Victoria and interstate including Queensland and Western Australia.
Lab Kelpie work today on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri, Boonerwrung, Taungurong, Djajawurrung and Wathaurung peoples of the Kulin Nation. We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to the land we perform on. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to elders both past and present.
