Illuminating the vulnerability and resilience implicit on life on Earth, Nankivell embodies everything from the jittering of microscopic organisms to seismic ecological shifts.

Week 2 of ‘ORBIT’ offers audiences an “intriguing” (Dance Australia on ‘Charcoal’) and “compelling” (The Saturday Paper on ‘Agitato’) program of dance.

Inspired by the regenerative power of cultural burning, Keia Mcgrady presents ‘Charcoal’, a visceral meditation on Country, lineage and the cycles of rebirth that are held in the land upon which we walk.

‘Agitato’ by Jo Lloyd is a palimpsest of music seen through a contemporaneous mirror, an understanding between women across centuries, made visible and visceral on stage.

With only 4 performances each, you’ll need to get in quick!

Join us for Week 1 of ‘ORBIT’ and experience an “extraordinarily beautiful” evening of dance (Deborah Jones on ‘[ gameboy ]’) .

‘Future History’ connects the personal and universal in a thrilling and urgent exploration of what it means to live here now, then and in the future. Past audiences couldn’t get enough, describing the work as “gutsy and satisfying” as well as, a “beautiful, intense, soulful piece of work”.

A crowd favourite from the 2025 ‘INDance’ program, ‘[ gameboy ]’ returns to the Nielson Studio stage. Amy Zhang brings a fusion of street styles and contemporary to explore the collision between the real and the virtual in a work that is as irreverently fun as it is physically virtuosic.

Applications are now open for Youth Ensemble 2027.

Across three terms, Youth Ensemble brings together technique, creative development and contemporary repertoire, giving young dancers the opportunity to work with professional artists and experience studio processes often reserved for pre-professional training.

Designed to complement regular studio commitments, the program offers three pathways for intermediate to advanced dancers.

Primary | Ages 10–12
Junior | Ages 12–15
Senior | Ages 15–18

In collaboration with Museums Of History NSW, Sydney Dance Company presents an exhibition that honours the people, stories and spaces that have shaped both the Company and the Wharf itself.

From intimate Oral Histories to archival images and iconic performance posters, this special celebration of 40 Years at The Wharf is on display until 16 October!

The images come from the collections of the State Library of NSW, Sydney Dance Company, Sydney Theatre Company and Museums of History NSW, and include photographs by Max Dupain and Wes Stacey, among others.

Sydney Dance Company’s Summer Professional Intensive is back!

Following an inspired Winter Intensive, applications are now open for five days of intensive contemporary dance training this January.

Designed for professional and early-career dancers, the Summer Professional Intensive offers the opportunity to deepen contemporary practice, expand movement vocabulary and explore Sydney Dance Company repertoire alongside leading industry artists.

Across five days in our iconic harbourside studios, participants will dive into contemporary technique, creative and choreographic exploration within a focused professional environment.

Tertiary dance students, graduates and professional dancers aged 18+ with a high level of ballet or contemporary dance training are encouraged to apply.

25 – 29 January 2027
Applications close 11 January.
