Carefully crafted lyrics set to a mix of cinematic and raw, stripped-back compositions are the hallmark of David Spry Music. His style moves from gritty and intimate songs to free-spirited, fun tracks. David strongly identifies with his Indigenous Maranunggu/Marrithiyel heritage from what is known as Daly River and Litchfield regions.

His cultural heritage on both parents’ sides has informed not just his songwriting but his take on life and how to live it as a conscientious human, leaving a legacy and being mindful of his place in the world.

This is the final Live on Fridays event for 2026 so help us close out the program with a bang.

Darwin’s own The Governors deliver deep grooves, raw soul and open ended improvisation, blending funk, jazz, reggae and late night rhythm into a sound that’s both tight and at times unpredictable. Featuring Allen Murphy (drums), Matt Holt (saxophone), Brendan Hicks (bass), Yuka Hicks (keyboards) and Mick Totham (guitar), The Governors bring a distinctly Darwin energy, tropical, soulful and driven by groove.
