The blues was born 200 years ago, on the cotton fields and plantations of the Mississippi Delta. The music created by the African slaves to co-ordinate their work movements enabled them to express all the anguish and alienation they were feeling. From those beginnings, the blues evolved into music we hear every day. The style of the 12 bar blues is recognised by musicians from around the world. It can be fast or slow. Funky, rocky, rockabilly. Smooth or gritty. The blues is versatile.
