DVA is committed to supporting local artists at all stages of their careers by building capacity for creative practice and fostering critical dialogue through the provision of studios, exhibition spaces, resources, and a contemporary arts program that is relevant in the local, national and international context. DVA's goals are focused on effectively supporting the development of professional prac

tice and skills for local artists through creating comprehensive, hands-on opportunities, to support the realization of quality outcomes and maturation of artistic practice, particularly in terms of curatorial refinement and professional presentation. Renata is in the gallery TODAY, 10 am to 2 pm.

Her very first solo exhibition is up on our walls and it is a burst of colour you need to see in person. Photos simply do not do it justice!

Come and say hello, ask her about the work, hear the stories behind the pieces. There is nothing quite like hearing an artist talk about their own art, and Renata is here until 2 pm today only.

While you are here, there is even more to see - three other exhibitions are on show right now, so give yourself a bit of time to wander.

Exciting news from Darwin Visual Arts Board

We are delighted to welcome two new faces to the DVA team.

Tim Parish joins us as General Manager. As General Manager, Tim will lead DVA's operations, finances and program delivery, and drive our fundraising, sponsorship and membership growth as we work to grow DVA's brand and reputation here in the Territory and beyond.
Tim is a Darwin-based artist, curator, filmmaker and creative producer with more than twenty years in the Territory arts community, and produced the Wild Thingz group exhibition.
He is Creative Director of Wild North Arts, and has directed the Darwin International Film Festival, Darwin Fringe Festival and Transitions Film Festival, bringing a strong track record in grants, sponsorship and program delivery. We are looking forward to the energy and ideas Tim will bring to the gallery.

Heather Bradbury joins us as our new Gallery Coordinator. Heather spent seven years running Kapi Art Space, a gallery and creative studio in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges, working alongside more than eighty artists and building a strong community around exhibitions, workshops and events. She is also a practising painter and teacher, and we cannot wait to see her bring that experience to our gallery floor.

Both Tim and Heather will be at tonight's exhibition opening, Friday 4 September, from 6pm.

Come down, say hello and help us give them a proper DVA welcome.

THROWBACK TO GLEΝTi 2026 — ΑΝΑΜΕΣΑ

Throwing it back to this year’s GleNTi Festival, where Darwin Visual Arts partnered with the Greek Orthodox Community of North Australia (GOCNA) to present Ανάμεσα.

Curated by & General Manager of Darwin Visual Arts , Ανάμεσα, meaning “in between” was an exploration of the evolving experience of Hellenic culture in the Northern Territory.

As part of GleNTi’s vibrant celebration of Greek food, music, dance, culture and community, which welcomed an estimated 40,000 visitors in 2026, GleNTi dedicated a pavilion on the Esplanade to this exhibition.

A huge thank you to GOCNA President Michael Koulianos, the GleNTi Committee, the participating artists and everyone who visited and supported the exhibition.

GARAGE SALE is an eclectic collection spanning Karen Hill’s current practice, retrospective works, experiments, old favourites and pieces that have been waiting for their moment to leave the studio.

Part exhibition, part archive, part studio clear-out... Garage Sale traces the evolution of Karen’s work across time, ideas, materials and making.

And this time, Karen wants it all to go out the door.

There’s just one week left to book Lost-Wax Casting with Recycled Aluminium with award-winning sculptor IΩANNA.

Across two hands-on evenings, you’ll learn the ancient process of lost-wax casting... from sculpting your own wax form through to casting and finishing it in recycled aluminium.

No previous experience necessary.

All artworks pictured are by IΩANNA and were created using the lost-wax casting technique explored in this workshop.
