Spend an evening under the stars at Darwin's premier outdoor cinema, the Deckchair Cinema. We're an award winning outdoor cinema on the edge of Darwin’s Harbour open 7 nights a week from mid-April to mid-November. Come down early and enjoy a refreshing beverage from our fully licensed kiosk (no BYO) or feast your taste buds on a hot meal. Gates open nightly at 5.45pm so you can enjoy a tropical su

nset before the 7.00pm screening. We are easily accessible via a well-lit, picturesque walkway from the City (via The Esplanade-Damoe Ra Walkway) or the Waterfront Precinct, and there is plenty of parking and bike racks available on site. The Deckchair Cinema is operated by the Darwin Film Society, established in 1954, to give Darwin audiences access to movies that would otherwise go unseen on the big screen. Being Darwin's only independent cinema our program is a diverse range of Australian, popular, family, foreign and classic films. The Darwin Film Society also operate Flix in the Wet (Sunday afternoons, January through March) and the Darwin International Film Festival (annually in September). TERMS OF USE OF OUR FACEBOOK PAGE

✨ MAYPILAMA: KEEL LINE OF CREATION - NT Premiere 25 June at Deckchair Cinema!

Join us under the stars for a powerful documentary from Yolŋu Country, sharing a story of birthing, culture, sovereignty and renewal.

In a remote Yolŋu island community, Elder Ḻäwurrpa Maypilama is on a mission to return birthing to Country through the djäkamirr research project. With the support of non-Indigenous midwife-researcher Sarah, and filmmaker Pat as witness, she navigates ancestral law and legal complications.

The film becomes a moving act of cultural strength, honouring women’s knowledge, community care and the stories carried forward for future generations.

This special Deckchair Cinema screening includes an opportunity to connect with this important NT story at a post-film guest panel discussion. .

🎬Jim Jarmusch's FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER is coming to Deckchair Cinema!

Join us under the stars for a new film from the acclaimed filmmaker behind Paterson, Only Lovers Left Alive and Broken Flowers.

Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Father Mother Sister Brother is a wry and beautifully observed comedy-drama about family, distance and the complicated connections that remain between parents, children and siblings. Told across three interlinked stories in different countries, the film follows estranged relatives as they reunite, navigate old tensions and discover meaning in the smallest gestures.

Join us under the stars for the beautifully crafted Italian drama from Paolo Sorrentino, the acclaimed filmmaker behind The Great Beauty and The Hand of God.

Starring Toni Servillo, La Grazia follows a fictional Italian president in the final months of his term. As he weighs difficult decisions around euthanasia legislation and presidential pardons, he is also drawn into questions of faith, love, memory and legacy.

🏡 BIRTHRIGHT coming to Deckchair Cinema.

A darkly funny Australian comedy, Birthright takes aim at the housing crisis, family tension and achieving the increasingly impossible Australian dream.

When Cory loses his job, he and his heavily pregnant wife Jasmine are forced to move back in with his retiree parents. What starts as an awkward temporary arrangement soon spirals into paranoia, resentment and a family power struggle.

Written and directed by Zoe Pepper and starring Travis Jeffery, Maria Angelico, Linda Cropper and Michael Hurst, Birthright is a biting Australian satire about what happens when the middle-class dream curdles.
