It’s Fun Fact Friday, and today we are looking at the ultimate drama king of the outback, the frill-necked lizard AKA: Frilly 👑🦎

Did you know his iconic neck frill can snap open to 30cm wide just to scare off predators? If the scary umbrella look doesn’t work, he rises up onto his back legs and bolts like a tiny dinosaur! This high-speed two-legged sprint is exactly why Aussies nickname him the “bicycle lizard.”

WE ARE HIRING – CASUAL ANIMAL HANDLER/ GUIDE! 🐊

Ever wanted to work with wildlife? 👀

Crocosaurus Cove is looking for a Casual Animal Handler/ Guide to join our Animals team.

We’re after someone with some animal handling experience who’s comfortable working hands-on with our reptiles and guiding guests through up-close encounters.

You’ll need flexible availability, including weekends, with some evening and public holiday shifts required.

Science Week is the perfect excuse to bring back one of our favourite Behind the Bite episodes 🎬🐊

Meet Sally Isberg, owner and managing director at the Centre for Crocodile Research right here in Darwin. Sally visits Crocosaurus Cove regularly to check in on our saltwater crocodiles and make sure our welfare and husbandry standards are up to scratch, while also learning more about what these ancient reptiles need to thrive in captivity.

260 million years on earth and we’re still learning new things about crocodilians every day. Some of that science is pretty glamorous and some of it involves poo 💩 but hey, you’d be surprised what you can learn from it.

Big shoutout to Sally and the whole team of scientists, keepers and contractors who keep our crocs happy and healthy behind the scenes. 🔬
