Over the last few days, I’ve had the absolute privilege of working alongside seven incredible young women from communities across the Top End as part of the Darwin Street Art Festival.
I was honoured to be chosen by the girls to create a design that would tell their story. Together, we incorporated each of their totems and wove them into a design inspired by the beauty, movement, and life of the Darwin Wet Season. Every element within this mural holds meaning and reflects the unique identities, cultures, and voices of these amazing young women.
Watching the girls bring this artwork to life has been something truly special. The amount of pride, talent, laughter, and connection shared throughout this project is something I will carry with me for a long time.
A huge thank you to the beautiful and inspiring Jaylene Cooper and the incredible Red Dust team for creating opportunities like this and for the ongoing work you do to empower and uplift our young people. Your passion and dedication shine through in everything you do.
The feedback we’ve received from the community over the last few days has been overwhelming, and it has been so wonderful to see people stop, admire the mural, and connect with the story behind it.
So much love to all seven girls, you should be incredibly proud of what you’ve created. Thank you for trusting me to help bring your vision to life. ❤️
If you’re down at the Darwin Waterfront, make sure you stop by and check it out!
