The aim of Theatrecraft Youth Unlimited is to give young actors from all over Victoria new and challenging experiences... with the hope they take their skills back to their home communities and become leaders locally. To do this we run live-in, intensive programs twice yearly with an emphasis on learning and extending skills in the performing arts in a friendly and welcoming community. TYU is not
a mega camp, nor a corporate activity: at its heart is the need to develop the skills and broaden the experiences of young performers so they can take the lead in their own communities or have the confidence to initiate projects of their own. We have run our camps with participant numbers ranging from 17- 38. Participants need to be aged 14-21 and have an established interest in theatre arts, in particular acting. These young actors will work with leaders and directors from a range of training backgrounds, skills and experiences who are passionate about developing young people through performing arts. Summer Performance Camps, held in West Gippsland, consist of: a live-in, intensive program held in early January with workshops, script and character development followed by rehearsals and then a public performance. Suitable for young people aged 14-21 with previous performing experience, through community theatre, education settings or learning in the private sector. We have the capacity to host up to 40 participants during summer camps. Winter Workshop Camps, held in Melbourne, consist of: a live-in program held during winter school holidays, with performing and creative workshops, city experiences, talks from visiting artists and more. Suitable for young people aged 14-21 with a love for the performing arts and wanting to learn new skills, experience artistic Melbourne and meet like-minded friends. We have the capacity to host up to 60 participants during winter camps. TYU is run by it’s creator Joanne Watt and a team of leaders, artists and supporters; all of whom volunteer their time, expertise and skills. and we thank them for their generous ongoing support. We could not continue this amazing program without the VDL and its volunteers.
