It has been a while since I stitched a larger piece. The time feels right to start a new one. Perhaps the feeling of breaking free from the limiting rules of small pieces (which also have benefits) aligns with other things that are wrapping up at the moment.

I regularly find that my creative movements link to the activity of life, which is why my work, while abstract or geometric, is autobiographical.

The feeling of Spring is starting with cool evenings and mornings, still great for a fire, and the days sunny and warm. So, this work starts with greens and pinks, just like new growth and blossoms.

Looking forward to seeing how the space will be filled on the Aida cloth and for the other things wrapping up at the moment.

The latest range available Southern Highlands Local Artists Pop-Up Gallery and Art Cafe Australia in Springetts Arcade in Bowral.

I love how the shop and art cafe look different every time I visit.

If you have always wanted to chat about a creative idea, artists are always there and the art cafe menu has great ideas to work on for a little escape during the day.

The mini works series started as a a few years ago. Now sharing the framed collection for World Embroidery Day.

The first lesson was the optimism of my original project idea. Each of these wasn't created in a short session.

Countering this, all the positives:

● Creative ideas flow when experimenting in a small space and using leftover threads.
● Mostly stitched on trains, the growing collection on one piece of Aida sparked many conversations. One of these was interview-like and a great way to verbalise my creative process.
● They became a way to reconnect to new ideas after a larger work was completed or I've had a stitching break.

I've started a new mini works series on black Aida. A new set of learning is forming while creating.

A collection of my works at Southern Highlands Local Artists Pop-Up Gallery in Springetts Arcade in Bowral.

These were stitched while travelling on the train and many other places. It is one of the fabulous aspects to my artistic practice; I can create when and where I want and need.

They were stitched over different time periods. 'Eagle Eyes' (top left) was stitched over 10 years while 'Cerulean Labrynth' (top right) was stitched in less than a month.

Winter weekend bliss is a crisp sunny day after a long period of rain. Perfect for pulling out weeds, collecting flowers and edible growth, and generally talking to the plants.

I love nested narratives and my trip to Adelaide two weeks ago was one of those. The destination was to attend a concert with its own multi-layered story. I wrote about that story for classikON.

To get there, I travelled on the XPT to Melbourne then The Overland to Adelaide. It was the second time doing this trip and this time sat in Car A of both trains. They were great for space and renewal but I collected fewer conversational stories.

Since the She Speaks program started in 2024, it has presented 14 concerts, 3 symposiums and a film screening - a testament to its growing cultural impact. This time last week, I was preparing for my next train adventure, further than the regular commutes along the Southern Highlands Line.

I thought it would be great to extend my Mini Works series to black Aida and I am enjoying the colour contrast.

Pic from The Overland with Journey Beyond Rail. I love stitching on this train, the view as we travel from Melbourne to Adelaide (I have to do the other direction), and the informative introductions to each station.

New flowers in the kitchen window.

After a stretch of cross stitch feeling like the only channel for creativity, it was lovely to spend some of the long weekend wandering in the garden to fill a vase for the kitchen window. The dancing light was a bonus.

A fabulous time at the Seven Season Exhibition, drinks with artists last night! Lovely connections made and conversations shared.

And the red dots are pure delight for us as the artists.
