THANK YOU SYDNEY ❤️

Last night, Sheridan Harbridge took her last bow in the triumphant homecoming season of Suzie Miller's PRIMA FACIE.

What started as an idea in 2018 quickly became a global phenomenon—thank you to every single person who came to witness and share in this incredible story.

"Those people that took a chance on that script so early on. the should be so proud of what they've done for our industry"

Before it was seen by millions, translated into over 30 languages and performed in over 50 countries, it began here.

Suzie Miller's PRIMA FACIE is a global phenomenon with humble beginnings in a 100-seat theatre in an old horse stable. The power of Australian theatre and stories is far reaching, something Griffin knows all too well.

We are proud to champion the fiercest, boldest Australian stories—if you were one of the 1.2 million people to see this play, thank you.

Griffin has been bringing big, important Australian stories to our iconic, tiny kite stage at the SBW Stables Theatre for decades.

And since we turned our small theatre into a big, BIG hole, we’ve been continuing to tread the boards of small stages across Sydney at Downstairs Belvoir, The Old Fitz and the Seymour Centre.

But the stories speak of worlds, ideas, risks far greater than the modest footprint on which we perform.

🏪 Tiny convenience store < giant K-Pop stage in Michelle Lim Davidson’s Koreaboo
🏠 A home in the small town of Kalgoorlie < the loud howl of rage of injustice and inequality in Meyne Wyatt’s City of Gold
🎠 Huge Pony < the centrepiece to Eloise Snape’s play about the grand delusions of fast approaching motherhood.
🌳 One small park bench < decades of Darlinghurst secrets in Elias Jamieson Brown’s Green Park.

And all these stories only happen because of you.

No matter the size, all donations make a big impact at Griffin.

The Griffin Award recognises an outstanding idea for a play or performance text that displays an authentic, inventive and contemporary Australian voice. It is with utmost excitement that we announce the three finalists and their plays for the 2026 Griffin Award.

Amarantha—THEY CAME FOR CANE
Danish Sheikh—BUREAUCRACY: A LOVE STORY
Vernon Pua—8 HOT TIPS ON SHARING YOUR BED

Highly Commended: Zack Lewin—F**K•A•PAPA

In 2026, thanks to the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund, the winner will receive a full commission and dramaturgical support from Griffin Theatre Company to develop their play in-house.

The winner will be announced on Monday 13 July at Downstairs Belvoir alongside a keynote speech from writer, actor and director Sheridan Harbridge whose body of work spans both performance and playwriting, including titles such as MY BRILLIANT CAREER and PRIMA FACIE. There will be a limited number of public tickets available from midday on Monday 22 June.

Then vs Now—seven years apart.

PRIMA FACIE by Suzie Miller has travelled around the world before returning home to Sydney. This story has come so far since it was first staged in our little theatre on the hill with Sheridan Harbridge still boogieing away 💃🕺🪩
