Dig Deep this EOFY as we take a Deep Dive into Sydney’s Arts and Cultural sector⁠

As we mark 20-years of championing creativity, Brand X is producing a powerful new documentary which is diving deep into Sydney’s arts and cultural scene. We’re asking the question: what the heck happened?⁠
⁠
Over the last five years we’ve all felt the impact of gentrification, cost of living, and brutal funding cuts. In the 2024-2025 City of Sydney Cultural Strategy, it was reported that Sydney was the only capital city to lose creative workers, while all other capital cities gained them; this documentary tells the story of a city in flux.⁠
⁠
Brand X is asking: how do we mend this issue…and can we? As we reflect on this, we're attempting to forecast who the next new wave of artists, ideas, and communities are.⁠

Rounding out Season 9 'Neighbourhood Sin' of The Flying Nun was ‘Better She Was Never Born’ by Erica J Brennan.

A beautiful, poetic and poignant exploration into pro-natalism and the female experience of defying the status quo. We loved this new work, and we are very excited to watch the evolution of its very bright future.

A big congratulations to the entire team and a huge thank you to our season photographer Peter Darnley-Stuart.

Last week, we welcomed Kinetik Collective and The Mill Adelaide all the way from South Australia to present My Hair is Thinning at The Flying Nun.

❗️Ground Zero Tech Crew Opportunity!

Brand X are on the hunt for a Sydney based sound designer with lived experience of disability to be part of "Ground Zero" a disability led performing arts residency and cabaret style performance season. You will be working on five short 10-15 minute works at our East Sydney Community & Arts Centre venue in Darlinghurst and would need to have flexible availability from April 24th - May 16th.

After his fiancé, Jamie, passes away unexpectedly, Anthony discovers that he’s terrified at the prospect of dying alone. Or worse, dying alone while bald. My Hair is Thinning is a darkly funny documentary theatre work about grief, loss, and the things we can and can’t grow back.

My Hair is Thinning is presented in partnership with The Mill, Adelaide.

TheLab@UNSW is an exciting new partnership between UNSW's School of Arts & Media and Sydney Fringe Festival. This experimental hub, housed in Studio One at the Esme Timbery Creative Practice Lab, will showcase innovative works for two weeks of cutting-edge performances across the Sydney Fringe.

‘I Watched Somone Die on Tik Tok’ by Charlotte Otton (Season 8) has been killing the game after her enormously successful Flying Nun run last year.

Scoring 5-star reviews, multiple Fringe Festival awards and nominations, all while inflicting audiences with existential and digital panic, we couldn’t be prouder of Charlotte.

The Flying Nun by Brand X is a platform dedicated to supporting artists to develop experimental, contemporary, counterculture, and brave new works. We can’t wait to watch many more stories like Charlotte’s emerge and break into the wider world.

‘Dolly’s Miracle Hoard’ by Hurrah Hurrah just closed after a SOLD OUT run at The Flying Nun!

Congratulations to the entire team for such an entertaining, heartfelt and FUNNY show. To celebrate, take a look into the world of Dolly’s hoard, it’s quite miraculous, really.

This won’t be the last you see (or don’t see) of Dolly….
