Critical Path

Critical Path Critical Path is Australia's leading centre for choreographic research and development.

We support independent Australian choreographers to push the boundaries of their practice. WHAT WE DO

Established in 2004, Critical Path is a choreographic research and
development centre based at The Drill Hall, a large rehearsal space on the harbour in central Sydney, Australia. Our principal goal is to support innovative research by NSW choreographers. We deliver a program of research opportu

nities which promote innovation by creating opportunities for choreographers to explore new ways of working, develop new networks and engage in debate and critical appreciation of dance. Best practice in artistic research is incorporated into a diverse program which features a two strand model of Facilitated and Responsive projects. OUR PROGRAMME

Provides support for experienced choreographers to tailor make research projects addressing their personal needs

Offers group professional development opportunities in workshops and masterclasses, where peer support and sharing is encouraged

Creates a context for mentoring and peer exchange through a program of projects instigated and led by experienced artists

Provides a platform for the sharing of research outcomes to peers, presenters and funders within a supportive critical context

Spots are filling up fast! Book now for this exciting opportunity to dance and train with Countertechnique teachers Na-ye Kim (Seoul, South Korea) and Madeline Harms (Sydney, Australia) in a 5-day workshop.

23 – 27 FEBRUARY 2026
MONDAY – FRIDAY
9:30AM - 3PM

The Drill Hall, Critical Path
Gadigal & Birrabirragal Country

Step beyond the class and dive deeper into the world of Countertechnique!

In this workshop, you’ll explore the practical tools behind Countertechnique and get hands-on with the Countertechnique Toolbox — dynamically organised information designed to support both body and mind. These tools help dancers stay present, process information, and turn thought into movement with clarity and ease.

Going deeper than what just a class can offer — this workshop is an opportunity to further understand, embody, and expand your Countertechnique practice.

WHAT IS COUNTERTECHNIQUE?

Countertechnique provides tools for body and mind to deal with the demanding dance practice of the 21st century. It is a movement system to help the dancer think about the dancing body, focusing on the process of incorporating information into action.

Countertechnique was developed by Dutch choreographer, dancer and teacher, Anouk van Dijk throughout her twenty-five year career. Over the last eighteen years, the knowledge and experience she gained – in constant dialogue with her dancers – was gradually transformed into a detailed theoretical system and a teaching method, which now together forms the Countertechnique system.

Note: This workshop is aimed for advanced, pre-professional and professional dancers.
