Background

The Aboriginal Community Justice Panel (ACJP) was established in 1988 in response to the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Death in Custody. The ACJP operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, supported by local Members who provide cultural and practical support to Aboriginal persons who are taken into custody to ensure their safety. The majority of ACJP activity is undertaken after hours and on weekends when other services are not open.
