Thank you, Shlomit! 🐋🪵
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been lucky enough to welcome Shlomit to King Island, where she has shared her incredible skills as a wood sculptor and whittling teacher with our community.
During her time here, Shlomit ran two whittling workshops, a cuttlefish bone carving workshop at the school, took part in the King Island Landcare print exchange and did a live chainsaw carving demonstration that left us with a gorgeous new piece of public art, Windy the Whale!
Shlomit embraced island life so wonderfully, immersing herself in our little community, getting to know locals, exploring our beautiful coastline and trying new things along the way. From the changing rock formations and wide-open skies to the empty roads, beaches and nature reserves, it’s been lovely to see King Island through her eyes.
In reflecting on her time here, Shlomit shared how much the island inspired her creativity, reminding her what it feels like to be fully immersed in the creative flow and the joy that comes with it. She also spoke about the warmth of the community, the friendships she made and the freedom she found in our remote little corner of the world.
We’re so grateful for everything Shlomit has shared with us, from her creative talents and willingness to try new things to the connections she’s made along the way.
Thank you, Shlomit, for sharing your talents with our community. We’ll miss having you here, and we wish you all the best for whatever creative adventures come next! 💙
