Hello there, remember me?

My visits to the pottery studio have been so few and far between since miss Olivia arrived 18 months ago... I swear I could feel my creativity dying a long, slow death 😂 That's when the algorithm gods served me a video of someone making fun, modern designs in stained glass.

So, as one does when nap trapped with phone in hand 🤷🏻‍♀️ I quickly went down the rabbit hole of YouTube tutorials. Twenty minutes later I decided 'I can do that' and announced to all my family I was keen to collect glass tools and supplies for my birthday.

Last weekend I finally had enough time to bang out my first piece and I gifted it to my beautiful boss, who's special skill is killing the hardiest of plants. Unless one of her cats knocks it over, she won't be able to kill this one!

To a seasoned glass artist, it's by no means perfect. But I'm very pleased with the result and look forward to making more stained glass around the 9367 other things I do every week. Unlike in pottery where work dries out and I need to rely on equipment outside my home - stained glass is not time sensitive and I have everything I need right here ☺️

From the pattern to the pot, this piece is entirely made my me 🤩

Hello... Remember me?

I'm that gal who potters about in her free time. But between having two young kids, round after round of childcare germs, a newish job in the accounting space, a tradie business we are trying to wrap up, a home in desperate need of renovations and an accounting diploma to complete online, there isn't much free time in my life at the moment.

So I have turned to the occasional hand building project to get some "me" time in and creative frustrations out 😂

Here are some monstera coasters I've recently collected from firing. I made these totally on a whim and I am really pleased with the concept. The glazes are very experimental, however, as I wasn't sure if the variegated (two tone) designs would look nice after firing.

What do you think?

Two weeks to go until we meet Baby O 🥳

And some things never change, even now I'm completely incapable of sitting still.

My husband unfortunately had to return to hospital, so I've been trying to use my toddler free moments wisely.

Over the past couple of nights I've been working on this triptych acrylic pour. It's something I've always wanted to try and it did not disappoint! I added silver leaf to it for a little extra detail - again something I've always wanted to try.

On the days Isaac is in care, I have:

- Replanted a long garden bed with 18 new kangaroo paw plants.
- Completely cleared the front deck so when the baby arrives we have somewhere for visitors to sit.
- Cleaned up the back deck so I can use the washing line in the nicer weather we are finally getting.
- Painted 6 doors to continue the two bedroom makeovers.

The day I actually spent sitting to get some business work done my feet swelled much worse than the days I spent on my feet, so I'm taking that as a sign to just keep busy, it's helping pass the time faster anyway 😆

Happy New Year!

I'm glad to see the other side of December, that's for sure. These boys were in and out of hospital all month, there's not a lot of "resting before the baby comes" going on on my behalf.

No pottery has been made since early December, I made a collection of mugs for gifts (larger this time) and there is only one left. Not yet sure if I should hold onto it for myself, or put it out there for sale. Depends how much interest there is I guess!

2023 means I am eagerly awaiting the next firing of the kilns at work to see if my first ever coil pot makes it through the final midfire. The thing is enormous - a whole bag of clay! And being my first coil build I'm very nervous about the quality of it's construction 😂

2023 also means there is unlikely to be much more pottery made for a while as a newborn will shortly be on the scene. I think it was a good 5 months with Isaac before I could leave him with Dave long enough to go out for a few hours. BF is wonderful, but really does keep you tied to the child 24/7 in the early days! But I'll be looking forward to the day I can get out and do something just for me 😊

Anyway, I have no idea what tomorrow will bring so I'll jump in to say it now:

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone, I hope your holiday season is relaxing and the New Year is one of good health.

My December has been an absolute sh*t show tbh so I'm looking forward to time with my boys at home this Christmas. They both spent time in hospital this month for different emergencies, the husbeast even had a brief stay in ICU. I'm now 8 months pregnant, so it's my turn next and they need get better to look after the girls next month 😂

As a result, poor Baby O won't have a finished nursery. She's not even here yet and she's already getting the typical second child treatment 😬🤦🏻‍♀️

Bring on 2023!
