We are a diverse art group who enjoy creating & showcasing our art, developing new techniques, and broadening our knowledge and experiences. 🎨 Workshops | Gallery & Café Exhibitions. Wish to encourage and promote artists, communities, galleries and associated businesses to all art enthusiasts throughout the region & beyond. Through artists and their communities we hope to achieve connectivity throughout the community and bring prosperity to artists and art communities as a whole.

[Post 2 of 2] Every portrait in ‘Faces in Places’ started with a conversation. 👩🏻‍🎨 Here’s a look at the artists, pictured alongside the sitters who inspired them and the portraits that came out of it.

Each pairing was completely random, and no two interpretations looked alike. Some leaned into bold colour, others into fine detail, others into abstraction, but every single one carried something of the conversation that shaped it.

Swipe through to see the artists, their sitters, and the finished pieces side by side. It’s one thing to see the portraits on the wall, it’s another to see the person who made them and the person who inspired them, together.

What a night! 🎨 Last night marked the final reveal of our ‘Faces in Places’ portrait challenge, and it was everything a community art event should be.

Over the past few months, our artists were randomly paired with sitters from our community, meeting them, chatting with them, and translating those conversations into portraits. The result? A stunning wall of faces, each one interpreted through a completely different artistic eye. We were thrilled to see almost half the portraits find new homes on the night itself!

Thank you to every artist, every sitter, and everyone who came out to celebrate with us. This is what community art is all about. 🖼️✨

Stay tuned for an upcoming post picturing and celebrating the artists, their sitters and their final portraits.

📍 The full collection is now on display at The Nest Cafe until September 26, so if you missed the reveal, you’ve still got plenty of time to stop by, grab a coffee, and see the faces of our community reimagined by local hands.

🕕 6-7:30pm — Open to visitors
Come and celebrate the unveiling of these incredible portraits!
After the reveal, the full collection will move to The Nest Café where you can enjoy the artwork for two months.

Only a week to go now and the suspense will be over for 36 generous sitters who allowed our members to paint their portrait as part of a group challenge that commenced in March this year.
All works will be on display in the Nest Cafe from Sunday 26th July so come in and enjoy the images. You may even recognise a face of two from around town.

Earlier this month our Artists of Crows Nest crew gathered for a beautiful pastel skills workshop led by the wonderfully talented Maxine Thompson. 🧑🏽‍🎨 Pastels are such a unique and tactile medium…the way colour blends beneath your fingertips, rich and deeply satisfying.

There’s something so special about a room full of artists all learning together, pushing outside their comfort zones and supporting each other along the way. That’s the heart of this community.

A huge thank you to Maxine for sharing her knowledge and passion with us so generously. 🙏 And the best news? She’ll be back next year to lead a people portraits workshop — so if you missed this one, keep your eyes peeled! 👀
