Not too long ago we were given access to a building to make a show. It bears little resemblance to what you will have seen. The incredible transformation was concocted by our Designer Ellie Kent.

Introducing Saba Senbeta.
Saba is a dancer and performer from Ethiopia who grew up in an orphanage in Addis Baba before landing in Australia.
Saba specialises in a form of dance called: Eskista is a traditional Ethiopian dance, native to the Amhara region. The dance involves vigorous rolling of the shoulder blades, bouncing the shoulders, and jilting the chest. It is typically performed to traditional Ethiopian music, which in itself is produced with traditional instruments such as the krar, flute, drums and masinqo.
You can see Saba's dance moves in Act 1 as part of Jonni's troupe and in Act 2 when she performs her traditional dance on our stage apartments balcony.

What incredible imagery and harnessing of such ecstatic chaos. It was a real joy to behold and I could have stayed for hours listening to the beautiful living room collective live their lives as the world exploded. I think the fact that you were able to end with such a real sense of hope in the face of such a confronting swamp of scary things in is a testament to how true the show is. I hope the rest of the season is full of laughter and conviction. You should be so proud.”
