Dark Sky Innovations

We believe that rural businesses & communities can THRIVE! EMPOWERING small businesses & communities to connect, create and GROW through INNOVATION and COLLABORATION is what we do!

Dark Sky Innovations is based in the NSW rural community of Coonabarabran which is adjacent to Australia's first internationally recognised International Dark Sky Park. The stunning Warrumbungle Dark Sky Park. We love our Dark Skies and the enormity of potential we can see and not yet see!

Innovation is our passion and we work not only in our community but with businesses across Australia and internationally. Like most businesses we have made a big shift this year due to COVID. We were in preparation for hosting an exciting Goose Chase for Coonabarabran’s inaugural Dark Sky Awakens Festival (an awesome Star Wars themed festival) in May when things were postponed. At the same time Youth events in the Warrumbungle Shire, where Coonabarabran is nestled, were closing down... so thinking outside the box we proposed a home based Goose Chase to the Youth officer of the Warrumbungle Shire Council. We were excited in April to launch the Warrumbungle Goose Chase which was to run for 3 weeks over the school holidays... before the finish date we were asked to extend for May (and we said “Sure!”) and then as the end of May was looming we were asked to extend to include June... and we said “Okay” and then we were asked to extend to include the July school holidays. So what started as a 3 week COVID lock down event turned into 15 weeks with 3208 missions completed by 89 players on 46 teams across the Warrumbungle Shire. 3 months of giggles, creativity, getting active and wonderful connections...

Vivian was running this first goose chase basically on her own and was exploding with ideas of how this could grow to help support rural and regional communities for not only family engagement but also assisting Festivals, Tourism and more whether in COVID lock down or not. Tying in perfectly with our business vision of helping rural businesses and communities to THRIVE!
