Who decides what makes it to your local cinema? 🎬

Long before the lights dim, distributors and cinema bookers are working behind the scenes assessing local audiences, competing releases, available screens and the potential of each film.

Even after opening weekend, audience demand can change everything. Strong ticket sales may earn a film more sessions, more screens or a longer theatrical run.

Making the film is only the beginning. Getting it in front of an audience is the next chapter.

If AI can create the image, what makes someone a filmmaker?

As new technology becomes part of the filmmaking process, the most important skills may become even more human.

Story. Character. Direction. Taste. Emotion.

The tools can create possibilities, but the filmmaker still decides what the story means and how it should make us feel.

What do you think will separate a great filmmaker from an average one?

Something we think you’ll love 🌏

Raising Global Citizens follows the Primus family as they leave their fast-paced city life behind and embark on a year-long journey around the world.

More than a travel documentary, it explores how new places, cultures and ways of living can shape young minds and help raise more curious, empathetic and globally conscious children.

Would you take your family on a journey like this? Let us know below. 👇

From showman to superhero, magician to prisoner of conscience Hugh Jackman has built one of Australia’s most versatile screen careers.

He brought rage and vulnerability to Wolverine, spectacle and ambition to P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman, obsession to Robert Angier in The Prestige, compassion to Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, and haunting desperation to Keller Dover in Prisoners.

Different worlds. Different men. One unmistakable Australian film icon.

Which Hugh Jackman performance stands above the rest?

Woody Harrelson’s most memorable characters are rarely conventional heroes.

They are grieving, cynical, frightened, stubborn and deeply imperfect but still capable of courage, compassion and change.

From The Messenger and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri to The Hunger Games and Champions, his performances remind us why complicated characters often stay with us the longest: they allow us to recognise something of ourselves.

Perhaps that’s storytelling at its best not asking us to admire perfect people, but helping us understand imperfect ones.

Which flawed film character has stayed with you?

What happens after a film is finished?

Before it reaches a cinema screen, there’s an entire distribution journey happening behind the scenes from finding the right audiences and building a release strategy to securing cinemas, creating the campaign and finally getting the film in front of moviegoers.

In this edition of HF Distribution Diaries, we break down how a finished film makes its way into cinemas and why pressing “export” is really just the beginning.

The finish line wasn’t the end of the story.

We asked audiences what they thought after watching 150 and their reactions say it better than we ever could.

Inspiring, emotional and a powerful reminder of what one person can achieve when they refuse to give up. But 150 is about more than 150 marathons. It’s about community, resilience and running for something bigger than yourself.

Watch what audiences had to say .... then help bring 150 to your community.

Think about this: The Odyssey has survived for thousands of years.

Before cinemas, before books were widely available, before most of the world as we know it existed...people were telling this story.

Why? Because every generation sees something of itself in the journey.

Now Christopher Nolan is bringing it to the big screen. But the most interesting part might begin after the credits when students question it, challenge it and discover what an ancient story can reveal about the world they live in today.

That’s the power of cinema. It doesn’t simply preserve great stories. It gives us a new way to wrestle with them.

At Heritage Films, we believe the screen isn’t where a meaningful story ends.

It’s where the conversation begins.
