The Official Uniform of Creativity has Arrived! 💗🎨

Today our new hot pink Studio Coolamon aprons have arrive and I am overjoyed. Funny how a colour can make you happy.

Some people wear capes. Our tribe will wear hot pink logo aprons. These aren't just aprons. They are witnesses to creativity, courage, friendship, laughter, morning teas, shared stories, artistic breakthroughs, the occasional creative meltdown, and more than a few accidental paint splatters.

Behind every hot pink apron will be a woman or man brave enough to pick up a paintbrush and discover what she/he's capable of.

The colour feels perfect for our studio.
Pink to me means:
💗 Creativity
💗 Kindness
💗 Encouragement
💗 Friendship
💗 Courage to try
💗 Permission to play

You can always spot a Studio Coolamon artist. They usually carrying a coffee, talking about colour, sharing cake, encouraging someone else, and now they will be wearing a hot pink apron.
I'm making a prediction about the first class in our new aprons:
• Someone will get paint on their apron.
• Someone will say, "I'm not artistic."
• Someone will surprise themselves.
• Someone will make a new friend.
• Someone will ask where I got the hot pink aprons printed.

And that's exactly how I like it.

Because these aprons aren't meant to stay perfect. They're meant to collect the marks of creative adventures, learning, growing, and having a go.

Here's to many more workshops, beautiful artworks, shared laughter, cups of tea, slices of cake, and a room full of wonderful people creating together.

Update - Karen’s artwork finished

The journey doesn't always end when the workshop does.

Karen recently finished her Gustav Klimt-inspired lady beneath the big sun hat, spending another 8 hours refining and developing her artwork after class. What dedication, patience, and commitment to her creative vision.

Karen shared:
"The painting was a heap of fun to do once I stopped rushing myself. Very relaxing working out problem solving. I love that about groups. The pleasure in seeing others enjoy themselves and being creative is heart-warming. And you are providing that space! What a lovely way to spend your time."

Her words beautifully capture something I see often in the studio. Art isn't always about getting it right the first time. Sometimes it's about slowing down, sitting with a piece, solving little creative puzzles, and allowing the work to unfold in its own time.

What I love most about our workshops is not just the artwork that is created, but the atmosphere that develops around the table. The encouragement, the sharing of ideas, the laughter, the willingness to learn from one another, and the joy of seeing someone discover what they are capable of.

Thank you, Karen, for your kind words and for reminding us that creativity flourishes when we give ourselves permission to slow down.

Feeling incredibly grateful today.

One of the unexpected joys of running workshops is that they become so much more than just a day of making art. Over time, a wonderful community forms — one built on creativity, generosity, encouragement, laughter, and friendship.

During our Wrapped in Gold workshop, I was reminded yet again how lucky I am to be surrounded by such thoughtful and talented people. My students arrived not only with their creativity and enthusiasm, but also with their generosity.

I was gifted a beautiful Gustav Klimt book, some wonderful materials and antique buttons that will find their way into future classes, flowers in bloom that will end up in my garden, litres of gold paint (which could not have been more perfect for a Klimt-inspired workshop!), a gorgeous Klimt inspired scarf, and the most delicious seven-layered honey cake which we all enjoyed together.

What touches me most is not the gifts themselves, but the kindness behind them. The willingness to share materials, ideas, knowledge, stories, and encouragement is what makes The Studio Coolamon such a special place.

Thank you for trusting me with your creativity, for embracing new challenges, for supporting my little art studio dream, and for making every workshop feel like a gathering of friends.

My cup is full, my heart is grateful, and yes... I now have enough gold paint to make Gustav Klimt himself proud.

✨ Wrapped in Gold ✨ June art workshop

What a beautiful day we shared immersed in the world of Gustav Klimt.

From the moment everyone arrived, there was a wonderful sense of anticipation. Some students embraced the theme with Klimt-inspired clothing, and I couldn't resist wearing a dress featuring a powerful Klimt-style femme fatale — strong, sensual and unapologetically bold, just like many of the women Klimt painted.

The golden theme continued at lunch with bowls of golden pumpkin soup and Julie Lyons' spectacular seven-layer golden honey cake. It was every bit as beautiful as it was delicious and perfectly captured the spirit of the day.

Our portraits were as unique as the artists who created them. We painted ourselves, daughters, mothers, beloved cats and imagined Klimt-inspired muses. Gold appeared everywhere — in backgrounds, patterns, halos, textures and intricate decorative details. We used every shade of gold we could find.

There was laughter, conversation, shared stories, moments of concentration and plenty of creative problem-solving.

As is often the case with detailed work, some portraits were not finished by the end of the day, and that's perfectly okay.
Art teaches us many things. Sometimes it teaches us patience. Sometimes it teaches us to let go of perfection. Sometimes it reminds us to trust the process and keep going even when we can't yet see the finished result. The most rewarding paintings are often built one layer at a time.

I was also reminded, once again, how incredibly thoughtful and generous my students are. I was spoiled with gifts — a beautiful potted plant, many litres of gold paint to keep future workshops shimmering, and of course Julie's magnificent seven-layer golden honey cake that we all enjoyed together. Your kindness means more than you know, and it is one of the things that makes this creative community so special.

Thank you to everyone who joined me for this special workshop and helped create such a warm, inspiring and supportive atmosphere. I look forward to sharing updates as the finished portraits make their way back to me.

Long weekends are such a gift. Brett is off creating two new sculpture. I have been practicing some pottery throwing (new to me) and I have been enjoying some weeding in the garden. The garden holds such promise and expectation to see what spring might bring after winter..
Also, partook in Coolamon Hotels first birthday celebration cocktail and market day.🍹

After the Rain in Winter

After the rain in winter,
the world seems to exhale.
Every leaf is washed clean,
every branch hangs a little lower,
bowing beneath crystal drops
that gather and tremble in the pale light.

The air is colder now.
A sharp breeze slips between the trees,
carrying the scent of damp earth
and distant woodsmoke.

From the dark, wet soil,
the first brave bulbs emerge—
small green promises
pushing through the season's stillness.

Autumn leaves loosen their hold,
drifting quietly to the ground,
revealing silver-grey bark beneath,
slick and glistening with rain.

Puddles mirror fragments of sky,
while every blade of grass
wears a crown of water.
Nothing rushes.

The garden lingers in this moment—
washed, waiting, awakening.
And in the hush that follows rain,
winter whispers that beneath the cold,
life is already beginning again.
