🎨 Colour Play: A Paul Klee–Inspired Studio Day 🌈

Ready to loosen up, dive into colour, and surprise yourself a little?

In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to mix beautiful, rich acrylic colours from a limited palette—and then use them in a playful, intuitive way inspired by Paul Klee’s iconic square compositions.

We’ll build layered, expressive backgrounds… then watch something magical happen as simple forms emerge through negative space. It’s part painting, part discovery—and completely absorbing.

No rules. No pressure. Just a day to explore, experiment, and enjoy the process. No experience needed—just bring your curiosity.

📅 Friday 3rd July or Saturday 4th July
🕘 9:00am start (allow approx. 6 hours)
📍 The Studio Coolamon 19 Curtis St, Coolamon

Private art class - Echoes of a Long Walk - Julie Lyons

A homage to A Long Walk by Jacqueline Burgess, inspired by the sweeping coastline of Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park. Completed by Julie Lyons during a private mentoring session.

This painting celebrates the value of studying and interpreting a beautiful artwork while allowing Julie’s artistic side to grow through the process.

Working on a large-scale piece beyond what could be achieved in a single class encouraged patience, courage, and creative problem-solving.

Throughout the journey, Julie developed skills in colour mixing, glazing, layering, and delicate fine-line detail work while learning to closely observe and connect personally with the subject matter that she had visited. She discovered how to create a rich and expansive range of colours and tonal depth.

I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Julie on a mammoth effort completing this painting. 👏👏👏

Contact me if there is a special painting that you would like to achieve but may not have all the skills or confidences to bring to fruition.

Kindest regards,

Allison Robinson 🌸

Two Artists. Two Stories. One very special private class….

There is something incredibly special about a private art class — the freedom to slow down, explore personal stories, and create work that truly means something.

Today, I had the pleasure of teaching a private session with Julie Lyons and Dianna Pilmore, where both artists chose completely different subjects and mediums, allowing each painting to become deeply personal and unique.

Julie selected the breathtaking landscape between Wineglass Bay and Coles Bay in Tasmania. Through colour, and atmosphere, she captured the serenity, Salvador Dali-esque landscape and natural beauty of this iconic coastline. Julie’s artwork is unfinished. It was three times the size of a normal class painting and she is almost finished. Will post with finished result later.

Dianna chose a subject close to her heart — a cherished memory of her Nan. Her Nan had a wonderful belief that Asian people brought good luck. She would quietly stand behind them, convinced their luck might somehow rub off on her and help her win. It was such a warm, humorous, and affectionate memory to bring into a painting, filled with personality and nostalgia.

This is the beauty of private classes. They allow time for storytelling, experimentation, individual guidance, and meaningful creative development.

Whether working in different mediums, tackling challenging compositions, or painting treasured memories, private sessions provide the space to create artwork with genuine emotional connection.

Watching both paintings evolve in completely different directions was an absolute joy, and a reminder that art is always at its most powerful when it comes from personal experience.

Message me if you would like a costing of a private class.

Allison 🌸

‘Hipster the Thread Collector’, has been framed. Created by Chris using layers of tarletan, tulle and thread, this striking textile portrait slowly evolved stitch by stitch during our annual Drawn with Thread workshop.

What made this piece even more special was that it was created during the time textile artist Carol Slattery herself visited the studio, generously sharing her techniques, wisdom and creative magic with us all.

You could feel the inspiration in the room as ideas began to grow, confidence lifted and beautiful experimental works started taking shape.

Watching ‘Hipster the thread collector’ emerge from delicate layers of tulle, shadow and stitched line was such a joy. There’s a quiet personality in him — thoughtful, slightly mysterious and full of character. Just like his creator Chris.

This is what I love about textile art… ordinary materials transformed into something expressive, layered and deeply personal.

Big Congratulations Chris for trusting the process and bringing him all the way to completion. I think you all would agree he looks very at home in his new frame. 🖤🧵

Thank you Chris for sharing him with me and allowing me to share with you all.

Join us for an art experience soon at the Studio Coolamon….

A quick autumn escape to Tumut 🍂

Tumut is the kind of place that makes you slow down without even trying. The air smelt of damp earth and fallen leaves, the river quietly trickling over stones, and everywhere you looked the trees were glowing in brilliant shades of gold, rust and red.

I packed a small bundle of charcoals and watercolours and spent time making quick sketches and loose little paintings — nothing polished, just trying to capture the feeling of the landscape in front of me before the light changed again. Smudged fingers, wind-blown paper and muddy colours included.

The river was much lower than usual, but still beautiful in its own quiet way. Gentle. Honest.

It reminded me how important it is to simply create. Not everything has to be brilliant or ready to frame. Sometimes making art is just about paying attention, being present, and letting your hands respond to a moment. Those small imperfect studies often hold more memory and meaning than the finished pieces ever do.

Keep creating art.

Love Allison🌸
