Drummoyne Art Society

Drummoyne Art Society The Drummoyne Art Society (DAS) is one of the oldest and most prestigious of Sydney Art Societies, commencing incorporation in 1964.

We have a studio and gallery in Concord where we run weekly art classes to suit all abilities. Established in 1964, the Drummoyne Art Society, commonly known as DAS, is one of the oldest and most prestigious Art Societies in Sydney. Although central to the Drummoyne area, DAS members are from surrounding suburbs including the north shore and central and south coasts. DAS fulfils the needs of the l

ocal art community by holding bi-annual art exhibitions, along with monthly art demonstrations by well established Sydney artists, weekly art classes and group painting workshops. DAS gallery57, at 57A Wellbank St, cnr Clermont Ave Concord, is our gallery, art studios, teaching, administration space and permanent home base. The gallery features a rotating exhibition of award winning members artworks for viewing and sale, along with art demonstrations and classes for both DAS members and the community. The gallery is free entry, and we invite you to visit and discover the variety of talent within our Society. DAS is a founding member of the Combined Art Societies of Sydney. Our members attend art tuition at the annual Art In Action weekend in the Blue Mountains, and the Art of Sydney exhibition at Sydney's Darling Harbour. CASS our cottage retreat in Kandos, NSW's Central West, is shared with other members from the Combined Art Societies of Sydney. The cottage provides opportunities to stay and paint plein air in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Members are encouraged to enter and showcase their works in the numerous art shows in and around Sydney. Many of our members are past winners, gaining recognition and good sales records. DAS is a friendly group of like-minded individuals, and new members are always welcome any time of year.

On Sunday 17 May, a group of DAS artists attended the Oil Painting workshop by John Perkins. The keen students learned the fundamentals of the tonal impressionist method and completed a still life and a landscape under John's patient and insightful supervision and tuition. One lucky member even walked away with a lucky hat draw prize - a painting by John.

Thank you

DAS art demonstration.

In April we had an eye-opening demonstration of hyper realist works with extraordinary detail by Simone Piccioni. His evident interest in light and shadow has been influenced by Caravaggio’s work. His more recent work centres around interiors and still life, exploring the stories and history behind objects that are ordinary, old and forgotten, including some of his grandmother’s belongings and objects owned by friends. He likes using his art to annoy and argue about, to elicit a response. Working in oils, he uses many glazes and has no fear, because mistakes can be fixed.

Simone brought many of his wonderful paintings with him and on several of them he demonstrated how glazes of different colours - red, blue, green, brown - transformed or enriched them, for example, by knocking back tones that were too dark or too light. We couldn’t help but be in awe of his imagination, creativity and meticulous attention to detail. A truly inspiring night! .piccioni

Our term 2 kids art classes are open for enrolments!

Leanne Champness, who is a talented artist and active DAS Committee member, brings extensive experience running art workshops designed for all ages, and she is passionate about creating a fun, engaging, and supportive environment where creativity can flourish.

This term, students will be exploring the fascinating world of values in colour—discovering why understanding value is so important in creating expressive and vibrant artwork.

Over the course of the eight-week term, beginning on the 30th of April, students will have the opportunity to experiment with new techniques and deepen their appreciation for colour in art.

Leanne believes that every student deserves personal attention, which is why we keep the class sizes small. This allows for plenty of one-on-one instruction and ensures that each child feels empowered to express themselves freely and confidently.

Leanne is looking forward to inspiring your young artists and seeing the wonderful creations they’ll bring to life!

Please contact Leanne directly via details provided in the poster for more information and to enrol.
