As winter arrives, our homes naturally become places of retreat.

In my latest Abstracted feature, I explore how colour, texture and artwork can transform an interior into a space that feels warm, grounded and inviting. From layered palettes to richly textured surfaces, thoughtful design choices can create a sense of comfort that extends beyond aesthetics.

Abstracted is a creative journal by Lee J Morgan exploring art, interiors and the spaces between, offering an artist’s view on the evolving language of design.

Inspired by the airy elegance of a beautifully perfumed wine, Clonakilla opens with soft violet, red cherry and raspberry tones, balanced by delicate gestures that drift across the surface with ease. Fine lines and subtle contrasts create a sense of tension and grace, allowing the composition to feel both intimate and refined.

Part of the Decanter collection, Clonakilla’s softened palette and layered surface invites a closer connection, bringing warmth, lightness and sophistication to a space.

Clonakilla is a 60cm x 90cm acrylic on canvas, built through layered applications and tonal transitions that create a sense of ease and intimacy.

As the end of financial year approaches, now is an ideal time for commercial clients to commission artwork that brings depth, atmosphere and distinction to a space.

Whether for a workplace, commercial or residential interior, a bespoke commission offers the opportunity to create a work that responds directly to the architecture, palette and experience of a project.

Commissions booked before June 30 may be eligible for end of financial year tax benefits. To discuss a commission, please get in touch.

A wonderful day with .fleming and in their Styling Masterclass.

One of the highlights was a behind-the-scenes tour of the beautiful with interior architect from . Experiencing the spaces through the eyes of the design team offered a fascinating insight into the thinking behind the architecture, materials and atmosphere of the hotel. The timing was made even better by the Louise Olsen exhibition on display throughout the space.

Throughout the day, Jono and Lucy shared valuable insights into interior colour palettes, emerging trends, texture and sourcing, all delivered in a relaxed walk-and-talk format while exploring some of Sydney’s hidden gems.

Seeing other creatives in their field is such a lovely way to be inspired and I am very much looking forward to translating some ideas on to the canvas.

Thank you to Jono, Lucy and everyone involved for such a thoughtfully curated day.

Astralis, of the stars, is inspired by the moment after the first pour, when the fire has settled and the glass is in hand.

Layers of dark plum and blackcurrant move through bitter chocolate and graphite, like a night sky holding its weight with composure and anticipation.

Bold in presence and refined in its structure, Astralis holds that sense of what lies ahead, long after the decanter has been emptied.

This work is part of the Decanter collection, where each piece explores atmosphere and sensory experience in a layered approach to abstraction.

Astralis is a 76cm x 102cm premium acrylic on 12oz cotton duck canvas with port wine edging.

A glimpse into the details of a recently completed work.

I love how a work continues to reveal itself, even after it has found its final form. There are layers, textures, and small moments that can easily go unnoticed from afar.

This is an invitation to look a little closer.

Gossamer has been selected as one of ’s Staff Picks this week.

Named after the delicate threads of silk you only notice when the light catches them at just the right moment, Gossamer holds beauty and fragility in equal measure.

120 x 120cm acrylic on 12oz cotton duck canvas framed in white or Tasmanian oak.

Gnadenberg’s Old Vines is inspired by the depth and intensity of a beautifully matured red wine, where richness reveals itself gradually and each layer carries a sense of history beneath the surface.

The texture moves like velvety tannins across the palate - dense, controlled and lingering. Subtle tonal shifts emerge through the darker passages, bringing clarity, balance and restraint to the work.

This piece is part of the Decanter collection, where each work explores atmosphere, sensory experience and the luxurious complexity found within moments of indulgence.

Gnadenberg’s Old Vines is a 120cm x 120cm acrylic on canvas, built through layered applications and rich tonal transitions that create an enveloping surface with both strength and softness.
