Nest in the West. The Cuckoo clock that lays eggs.
The cuckoo clock is viewed as one of the Germany’s cultural clichés, cuckoos from the black forest used to drop eggs in other bird’s nests, and trick them to taking care of them.

The German cuckoo is facing extinction; shrinking natural habitats have led to a reduction in the number of surrogate nests, which in turn led to fewer cuckoos.

In terms of German social landscape, recent years has seem Germany taking in large numbers of immigrants and refugees which seem to have caused more Germans fear losing the life style they are accustomed to.

Are there too many eggs in the nest?

Cuckoo Clock / Kuckuck! - Wer bin ich?
(Cuckoo! Who am I?)
For me a cuckoo clock is the pinnacle of
German tackiness representing backward
traditionalism combined with highly engineered intricate and precise mechanisms. In general a cuckoo clock will reveal a little bird leaning forward out of an opening at the top each full hour which is often accompanied by a cuckoo sound or music.
My cuckoo clock reveals a german icon each
full hour which represents how Germany is
generally perceived nowadays by the rest of
the world. But it also symbolises the struggle of the German identity itself. Even though
Germany is widely seen as one of the leading
nations in the world the people are not allowed
to be too proud of it due to its terrible past. With the burden of the Holocaust on their shoulders the German people are forced into a constant self reflexion about their own identity,
nationality, patriotism and role in today’s world.
The current massive influx of refugees and
migrants and resulting cultural clashes made
this even harder.
Through the fully mirrored clock your own
reflection is what you see first, distorted by the
fully mirrored hands, questioning yourself each
time you look at time passing by, even if it is
just to quickly check your looks on the way out.

Cuckoo Clock / Never Forget
Growing in Israel, I was conditioned to associate Germany with the holocaust. Once a year on the exact same time and date, a 2 minute siren paralyses the coun-try. The entire nation stand still lowering their heads down; remembering, reflecting and paying respect.
Germans come across as precise, neat, rigid and uber pragmatic.
The notion of time (clock), siren (cuckoo) and memory have enticed me to create a three parts timepiece that once a day aligns to thrust a bold message: NEVER FORGET. The design was influenced by the way I perceive Germany and Germans; clean, rigid, transparent, accurate and punctual.

Menorah / Blood Light
Israel will always be home. It is where I was born and raised and where my family still live. My connection to this country is beyond memories, it’s in my veins, my blood.
Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce. Being one myself, it seemed appropriate to harness my technological knowledge and create a contemporary interpretation to the historic Menorah - a candelabra used in ancient times to illuminate the holy temple in Jerusalem.
Practicing as a luminaires designer and maker, I’ve used addressable LEDs to pro-gram a light show that models 7 days of light. 5 meters of RGB LEDs sectioned into 7 parts, where 6 parts are equal and the 7th is longer to symbolise the ‘Shamash’ (He-brew: שמש" ,attendant"). Each section lights simultaniasly with the ‘Shamash’ for 30 sec-onds. One by one they flow into the next like a stream of blood light. When fully lit, a rainbow appears, symbolising an additional aspect of who I am.

Pagoda / Air Temple
Thinking about China, the connotations arising are Copy Culture and Pollution.Air pollution has become a major issue in China and poses a threat to Chinese public health.
Rip-os of all sorts are common. Yet copy-ing, whether a painting or a literary work, has a long tradition in China. It was a way of learning, of showing admiration and respect.
Combining both notions into a product, led me to create an exact copy of the famous ‘Temple of Heaven’ and fitting it as an air purifier.
The four-parts wooden pagoda, houses an electric fan in its base, biochemical filter of activated charcoal granules on the first floor and mechanical filtration sponge at the top. The sponge can also take essential oils thus improving psychological or physi-cal well-being (Aromatherapy)..
