Established in 1981, over the years the Australian Print Workshop has rapidly expanded its activities, attracting many of Australia's leading artists based on its reputation for high quality work and professional support facilities. Australian Print Workshop is recognised as a key authority on contemporary Australian printmaking. It is a 'not-for-profit' organisation that receives support from a range of sources including state and federal government arts funding agencies, charitable foundations, corporate sponsors and individuals. Works produced at the Australian Print Workshop are represented in all major Australian public art gallery and museum collections in addition to significant international collections. APW is proud to have supported Townsville based artist Ron McBurnie, whose work is represented in public and private collections throughout Australia.

In 2019, Ron undertook a three-week residency at APW. This provided him with the facilities to spend a concentrated period of time evolving his work in the print medium. Ron had the opportunity to collaborate with APW’s high skilled printers to produce a multi-colour lithograph for the first time.

Over the years - APW is proud to have supported Ron to produce 7 new artworks in the print medium.

APW is proud to have supported Melbourne based artist Kate Gorringe-Smith – who is a highly regarded artist/printmaker renown for her community engaged practice that champions awareness of fragile environments and endangered birdlife.

Kate has been an important member of APW’s artist community for many years – having contributed to several of APW’s ‘Impressions’ projects over the past two decades.

In 2024, Kate was invited to participate in APW’s collaborative print project ‘IMPRESSIONS: Land, Sea and Sky’ that showcased the work of four women artists connected by their interest in nature and the environment.

As part of this project, Kate worked in collaboration with APW printers to produce two striking, multi-colour prints that utilized both relief and lithographic printmaking techniques.

Over the years - APW is proud to have supported Kate to produce 6 new artworks in the print medium.

APW is proud to have supported major Australian artist John Wolseley.

Since first collaborating with APW in 1990, John has built a longstanding creative partnership with the workshop, contributing to many significant APW projects including ‘place made: Australian Print Workshop’ at the National Gallery of Australia in 2004.

In 2012, John participated in APW’s major project ‘Catalyst’ - creating a remarkable suite of multi-colour lithographs in collaboration with APW printers that explored his ongoing engagement with the Australian landscape.

In recognition of his important and lifelong contribution to Australian fine art printmaking, John was awarded the prestigious APW George Collie Memorial Print Award in 2017.

Over the years – APW has supported John to produce 48 new artworks in the print medium, that have been collected and exhibited widely around Australia and overseas.

APW is proud to have supported Ballarat-based artist Deborah Klein – a highly regarded artist whose work is held in private and public collections throughout Australia.

APW has collaborated closely with Deborah across a range of projects - from welcoming her as a Special Guest Artist in APW’s education program, to presenting her prints in touring exhibitions internationally.

In 2020, Deborah was awarded the prestigious APW George Collie Memorial Print Award in recognition of her important and lifelong contribution to Australian fine art printmaking.

Over the years, APW has supported Deborah to produce 55 new works in the print medium, that have been collected and exhibited around Australia and overseas.

APW is proud to have supported leading Melbourne-based artist Kevin Lincoln, whose work has been exhibited and collected by major public galleries around Australia.

In 2019, in recognition of Kevin’s significant and sustained contribution to Australian printmaking, he was awarded the prestigious APW George Collie Memorial Print Award.

APW has developed a longstanding creative partnership with Kevin, who has produced an extraordinary body of fine art prints at the Workshop - including etchings, drypoints and lithographs.

Over the past four decades - APW has supported Kevin to produce over 140 new works in the print medium, that have been collected and exhibited in Australia and internationally.

APW is honoured to have supported highly respected Yorta Yorta, Mutti Mutti and Boonwurrung artist Lee Darroch, whose work is represented in major collections throughout Australia and internationally. 

APW first collaborated with Lee in 1999 – as part of a series of printmaking workshops conducted by APW in partnership with the Koorie Business Network for First Peoples Artists living in regional Victoria.

In 2005, Lee collaborated with APW printers to create an original print that formed part of a major APW project that showcased original prints produced by First Peoples Artists from Victoria at the 2005 Aichi World Expo held in Nagoya, Japan.

In 2024, Lee participated in APW’s project ‘IMPRESSIONS – LAND, SEA AND SKY’.

APW is honoured that we have had the opportunity to work in collaboration with Lee for almost three decades – developing a creative relationship and friendship that has delivered so many wonderful artworks in the print medium.

Over the years - APW is proud to have supported Lee to produce 12 new artworks in the print medium that have been exhibited throughout Australian and Overseas.
