Pop culture loves a parentless protagonist. From Little Orphan Annie to Simba in The Lion King, losing a parent is usually just a plot device to kickstart a hero’s journey. But the reality of grief is so much more complex.

The film follows a group of individuals navigating parental loss as they craft a unique theatre production. By stepping into the shoes of fictional orphans, they weave their own raw stories into the fantasy worlds we all know. It’s an exploration of trauma, tropes, and how we ultimately learn to parent ourselves.

Thrilled to announce our film Dead Parents Club will premiere at this years Melbourne Documentary Film Festival!

Co-created with documentary maker (Queens of Concrete) This project has been a labour of love (and tears).

Dead Parents Club follows Melbourne locals attempting to become famous orphan characters like Simba, Little Orphan Annie and Frodo Baggins. Blurring documentary, performance and cultural interrogation, the film collides pop culture with private grief.
