All of my art is inspired by the natural world and corresponds to metaphors that depict the human spirit, strength, resilience and transformation in the face of difficulty. Much like what we have all been faced with in 2021.

My name is Ember and my pronouns are She/Her. I am a q***r acrylic pour artist based on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. I create art that utilizes metaphors and imagery gathered from the natural world that correspond to my experiences as a therapist and social worker over ten years in diverse settings including schools; hospitals; and inpatient psychiatric wards.

I believe in the power we have to heal ourselves. I believe that art is a healing practice that can revive the soul in the darkest of times; consolidate learning and provide inspiration. It can depict our deepest values and reminds us what makes us human, even when faced with incredible challenges.

Much of my work is influenced by a commitment to telling exclusively q***r narratives, and by a desire to promote the mental health and flourishing of all q***r people despite their origins, background, or stage of life when they came out.

I started creating videos on TikTok that depict my original work in May 2020. In December 2020 in a tiny apartment in Lewisham NSW, I built a simple wooden box out of ply wood and left a trail of towels back to the bathroom so that I wouldn't get paint on the floor and walls as I created. I had recently come out as gay at the age of 33 and was beginning to rebuild my entire life. Whilst the disillusionment of deconstructing my former life was exhausting and at many times heartbreaking, my art became my healing. As I started to share it with others, I began to appreciate that it could become part of other's healing too. Slowly but surely what happened inside that tiny box began to completely transform my life, and symbolize and commemorate all that I was leaving behind; and all that I was becoming.

I called myself the Rainbow Lotus, as the lotus flower is a symbol for regeneration and healing; and I am committed to using my work to promote the health, growth and healing of q***r individuals and communities.

It is my sincerest hope that these pieces of my artwork will act as lights in the darkness, emblems of hope and symbols of connection within healthy, thriving q***r communities - like the one I am privileged to belong to.
