LAST CALL
For the past two years, we’ve been working to make the Glass Epicentre a reality - Melbournes first independent community glassblowing facility and a permanent home for glassmaking knowledge, training and practice.
We’re now at the point where we need to make the biggest ask of all:
3 million to build the infrastructure.
Glassblowing is knowledge held in the hands. It’s passed from one practitioner to another through observation, repetition, collaboration and time.
You can’t download it. You can’t fast track it.
Without places to practise, and people to teach it, it disappears.
Over the past two years, we’ve invested our time, energy and resources to get this project off the ground - developing the plans, navigating council approval, investing in equipment, building training pathways and growing a community around the Hotshop.
We’ve done the groundwork.
But infrastructure is expensive.
For the past 18 months, we’ve approached philanthropists, foundations and supporters here in Australia and overseas. We’ve had incredible encouragement, but we haven’t found the investment needed to build the facility.
So this is our last call before we have to make a very difficult decision.
We have 100 days to find the funding - or this opportunity expires.
Three million dollars could create a permanent piece of Australia’s cultural infrastructure: a place where artists can create, young people can learn, knowledge can be passed on, and the public can experience the extraordinary world of molten glass.
If you know a squillionaire with a soft spot for culture, a love of glass and an appetite for a tax deduction - please send them our way.
We have an Australian Cultural Fund established, providing a pathway for tax-deductible philanthropic support.
We’ve built the foundations.
Now we need someone to help us build the future. Let’s build the future of glass together.
