Outer Urban Projects

Outer Urban Projects Outer Urban Projects vision is to create high calibre art for maximum social impact.

OUTER URBAN PROJECTS aims to create new forms of contemporary performance imagined from the life experiences of young artists from the outer northern suburbs - a part of Melbourne and Australia that although not at the epicentre of mainstream cultural life, possesses great artistic wealth and community energy. We give voice to the unexpressed aspirations and creative potential of marginalised, cul

turally diverse young people, whose origins span five continents. Outer Urban Projects runs a community access tutorial program (Zone 2), a social enterprise (Urban Events) and produce major performance projects.

"The live arts often blend a variety of disciplines to create unique theatrical experiences. Outer Urban Projects embraces this notion head-on. VIGIL might spring from loss and grief, but it celebrates life in all its diversity." Keith Gow - The Saturday Paper

ARTVINE: Outer Urban Projects' VIGIL is performing at Arts House 22 April - 3 May

VIGIL is a polyvocal performance work made by visionary communities and creatives with something to ask of Australia: What lives matter? Do our lives matter?
Bringing together a compelling creative team of writers, performers, dance artists, and community members, VIGIL examines the intersections of public and private safety, race, gender, and terror in the streets of our city.

This multi-cultural, multi-artist production includes a story by Yorta Yorta playwright Bryan Andy, acted out by ILBIJERRI alums Sermsah Bin Saad, Carly Sheppard, and Kamarra Bell-Wykes.

Final days to experience VIGIL - Film Installation at Arts House. Closing 1 May.

Arrive early for the live work to experience the film and see how both works interweave.

Award-winning short film VIGIL, directed by Pippa Samaya and Tara Jade Samaya (The Samaya Wives), with original score by Irine Vela, is an intimate reflection on the ripple effects of gender-based violence — an embodied devotion to collective power, congregation, and vigil.
