Nashville is the legendary home of great music..

So what happens when you put a Nashville based New Zealander singer/songwriter and a Nashville based Australian guitarist/songwriter/producer together?

You get the amazing combination of Jackie Bristow and Mark Punch!

These guys have toured with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs and Chris Isaak, and their songs have featured on hit TV shows including Euphoria and The Brokenwood Mysteries.

Following on from their highly successful very recent European and NZ tour, they will be in Sydney to play one show for us at the Starfish club on Monday April 13th.

Blending soulful Americana, folk and roots music with stunning musicianship and heart, Jackie’s rich, emotive vocals and Mark’s world-class guitar work have earned international acclaim.

Joining them will be the legendary Clayton Doley on organ and keys, along with the Starfish Rhythm section of Hamish Stuart and Jonathan Zwartz.

Ilan Kidron headlined at the sold out Starfish Club shows with the high-energy and hypnotic chaos of the 'Heads Talking ' band.

Now we have the same magnetic performer with something a little different, and it's a real treat.

A new solo album by Ilan, with a different intention shaping a new body of work, performed live at Starfish.

'SWIMMER' is an album born from love, loss and the long journey back to the surface. The songs flow like water through different languages and genres, sometimes surging, sometimes barely rippling, carrying stories of memory, grief and fragile hope.'

To bring these songs alive for you, Ilan has assembled an incredible cast of players with strings and woodwinds in the mix.

The musicians are;

Ilan Kidron vocals and acoustic guitar

Eddie Bronson saxophone and accordion

Lara Goodridge violin and vocals

Susie Bishop violin and vocals

Ilan releases new album! Crack band of heavyweights plus string section

2026 is our 30th anniversary year! Yes-the Starfish Club has been going that long. From humble beginnings at the Bondi Surf Life Saving Club HQ under the auspices of the caretaker and mad jazz lover Rick Ireland through to the Clovelly Bowling Club, where we have been for more than 20 years. We aim to continue bringing you great live music each month.

We begin on January 5th with an old friend and killer musician Dave Brewer.

Not only is Dave one of our most acclaimed Blues guitarists, he is also someone we have known longer than the Starfish Club. He's a quiet legend, He just sounds so good and he makes those he play with sound good too. We are always thrilled to have him perform.

For over three decades Dave has been the backbone for many of Australia’s most seminal acts including The Dynamic Hepnotics, The Elks, The Mighty Reapers and the catholics.

Since returning from Sydney to hometown Perth 20 years ago, he has been regularly working with Lucky Oceans, Natalie Gillespie along with his own band, the Deluxe Combo.

It's a rare treat when he is back in Sydney to have him in the club.

This night will feature some of Dave's Original material from his three albums, including songs from his latest release "Long Road Back Home".

Joining him will be the absolutely incredible - say no more - Clayton Doley on Hammond organ, and naturally the Starfish Rhythm Section of Hamish Stuart on drums and Jonathan Zwartz on double bass.

Come along and start the year with some fine music

Steve Clisby’s career has been about breaking down barriers. Growing up as a young black man in a largely segregated 1950s America. Creating an unlikely life for himself bringing soul music to Europe. Holding on to a love of jazz to carve out a 50 year career in a world besotted with rock n roll. Taking the leap to audition for The Voice while holding true to his musicianship. Collaborating with Thundamentals, Hermitude and Chew Fu at the age of 68. Nobody told Steve Clisby he couldn’t. So he did.'

Steve Clisby. The man with the deeply soulful voice. Captivating audiences with his unique blend of jazz, soul and blues and his dynamic stage presence, is our guest for September.

Since making Australia his home in 2013. His deep, velvet voice, emotive delivery and ability to connect with the audience has made him a highly respected figure on the Australian music scene.

Since his appearance on The Voice, he has continued to build his career as a solo artist. Blending elements of jazz, soul, blues, and R&B,

Steve has toured extensively, performing at iconic venues and festivals across Australia with his authentic and heartfelt performances .

His music speaks to the heart, with lyrics that reflect his personal experiences and also his love for music. His journey from a passionate musician in the U.S. to a celebrated and still passionate artist in Australia is a testament to his dedication to his craft and his ability to evolve as an artist while staying true to his soulful roots.

This exclusive performance promises a dynamic blend of jazz, soul, and blues, consolidated by a fantastic band with Bill Risby piano, Carl Dewhurst guitar, Jonathan Zwartz double bass and Hamish Stuart drums.

For our August performance we are presenting a rare treat. The highly acclaimed and totally amazing NZ pianist Jonathan Crayford on his way back home from playing in Europe.

This will be a trio format with the starfish rhythm section of Jonathan Zwartz and Hamish Stuart. so expect a true jazz concert with an eclectic mix of material drawing on Jonathan's extensive and impressive musical experiences in NY, Cuba, Brazil, and Europe.

Jonathan Crayford is a highly original compositional talent and pianist. He has written many film soundtracks, albums, and collaborations.

Notably, he has worked with a wide range of musicians including Kurt Rosenwinkel, David Binney, Mambo Macoco and Groove Collective, David Murray, Tony Allen, Questlove and Macy Gray, in Cuba – with Bobby Carcasses and in Brazil with Alda Rezende, Caito Marcondes, Kristoff Silva and José Miguel Wisnik.

His work spans many different genres of jazz, funk, and classical disciplines, as well as Latin jazz in regional styles, including, but not limited to Cuban, Brazilian and Spanish dialects.

A highly respected and exciting pianist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and film composer whose scores and albums have received critical acclaim as well as many nominations and awards.

Crayford's 2014 trio Album, ‘Dark Light’ was nominated for the Best New Zealand Jazz Album and the 2016 follow up, ‘East West Moon’ took out the award in that category. His other achievements include nominations and awards for several feature films and theatre productions.

"This is the kind of piano I totally relate to: exploratory, thoughtful, soulful, focused. Those qualities are all sort of contradictory, or at least contrasting, which is why this kind of work is meaningful: because it is multi-dimensional.”

Thomas Conrad, Jazz Times

"He’s an artist embedded so deeply within his music that his persona reflects in those terms. It’s as if he were the embodiment of sonic shapes and forms.”

John Fenton, jazzlocal32.com
