Today I’ve been busy planning one of my warmup exercises for the ‘Express Yourself Through Mindful Collage Art’ Workshop on Thursday 7th – 28th May and Saturday 9th – 30th May from 10:00-12:30pm at SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre. I’ve had so much fun working with my favourite colour. I find aqua / teal so calming. Collage art is so addictive – there are so many gorgeous colours, patterns, textures almost everywhere we look. However, today I challenged myself to choose only 3 collage pieces of paper. I know super hard right? However, I was committed to the process and chose 1 x piece of marble mini scrapbook paper that reminds me of an arial view of the ocean. This became my inspiration for these mini collages. The other 2 x pieces of page are from coffee table photo books. Yes, I’m a huge book lover, and hate cutting up books… however I’m also a huge advocate for seeing amazing photos captured in these gorgeous books recycled and living a second life rather than being tossed into landfill. All the money raised from the Rotary Clubs Secondhand Book sales, where I purchase all my art books, always go to amazing local charities, so it’s a win-win. Anyway, both the photos I selected are ocean views with varying aqua tones. I then collated all three pieces within my 6 collage squares – moving the strips of paper around each square in different places so no 2 squares are the same. See below my final collage. As you can see, I’m experimenting with Colour Tone, by using light, medium and dark aqua colour. I just love the process, as I quietly trust my initial instinct for where to place each piece, then view the final layout and make slight adjustments before gluing all the pieces down. It does help to take photos of the process as you go just in case you bump your page and all your pieces move. As you work you notice yourself relaxing into the process. It’s truly cathartic. I'm super excited and can't wait to start this workshop next week, it will be heaps of fun. No prior experience needed, and I provide all the materials, to make it as easy and as accessible as possible. I’d love for you to join me and other like-minded people. Bookings for these classes can be made online platform https://home.springdale.org.au/being-creative/ or by calling the centre on (03) 52531960. Hope to see you there.
