Woohoo, such a lot of Sunday dance fun with Pearly Shells Hot Six at Clayton RSL These guys had the joint jumping! The dance floor was crowded all afternoon. Lots of smiling faces and happy people. Led by Steve Purcell on bass and vocals, with Paul Coyle on trumpet and vocals, Rob Glaeseman on saxes, Monty Price on guitar, David Allardice on piano and Gavin Gray on drums. Danni Smith joined them for some lovely vocals in the second and third set. What a lovely Sunday afternoon. Thank you Pearly Shells Hot Six and Danni!

Such a wonderful band last night at Clayton RSL. Smithy's Harlem Swings had the audience enthralled, and they were so good to dance to. Led by the inimitable Ian smith on cornet asnd vocals, with Chris Ludowyk on trombone an vocals, Cal Duffy's brilliant drumming, Dave Allardice on piano, Richard Mander on bass, Shane Ryall on guitar all capped with the talented Paul Furniss on clarinet and sax. We were so lucky to have Paul, a legend of Australian jazz, on stage! Tha music was fantastic. Then, we were fortunate to have Deb Lavelle sit in with some lovely vocals and Peter McKay took over the piano for a while. Such a treat to have this band play for us - thanks guys for a truly lovely night!

“ Next Saturday ( the 3rd of October 2026 ) at 4.00 pm shall be a landmark in Australian jazz radio when Jazz On A Saturday presented on behalf of the Victorian Jazz Club on community radio 3CR on 855 AM takes to the air. First broadcast on Saturday the 2nd of October 1976 , Jazz On A Saturday now has the distinction of being the longest running jazz music program on Australian radio.

The first presenter was Roger Beilby who presented the show on a regular roster basis from the very beginning of the show with John Smyth and from 2000 with John Trudinger and from 2010 with Geoff Tobin. Sadly , despite battling a serious illness Roger passed away in July 2026 . The program emphasized Australian Jazz and jazz news and advocated for Australian musicians, interviewed many international jazz musicians touring Australia and broadcast live from festivals , Australian Jazz Conventions and other notable events.

Next Saturday , the 3rd of October , John Smyth , John Trudinger and Geoff Tobin will broadcast the show live from the 3CR studios in Collingwood from 4.00 pm with special guests to celebrate this special event in Australian jazz history and the support of community radio 3CR and the Victorian Jazz Club for Australian music “ .

So much fun and dancing today with The Martini Set. Wonderful music, lots of happy faces and a lot of laughs. Led by Steven Howard on guitar and vocals, with some fab sax and flute from Bruce Sandell, Delightful piano from Danny Bourne, great bass from James Clark and as usual amazing drumming from Rod Gilbert. How lucky were we! Thanks Martini Set!

Wonderful night of jazz with Joe Ruberto's Jazztet, featuring Rebecca Mendoza.Rebecca graciously filled in for Ruby Page who had a bad dose of the flu and was unable to perform. What a lovely night od jazz standards, played so well by Joe Ruberto on piano, Tony Mazziotta on bass, Lachlan Davidson on reeds, Dave Newdick on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dean Cooper on drums and the very talented singer, Rebecca Mendoza. These guys put on a brilliant performance and the audience loved it. There were dancers on the floor all night and it was nice to see Rebecca join them!
