8 months ago, the four of us came together for the first time to design a game for our Monash University game design studio project. Fall of the Machinae has exceeded our expectations but is still far from finished. Although we have submitted our game (and the current trailer below), we plan on continuing development on the game in the coming months, targeting a pre-release in December 2020 / January 2021 that will be available to the public. 🤩

Our new trailer highlights the new slum level, featuring desert towns, caves and treehouses. More updates to come soon! 🎮

This prototype game was made during a Monash University game design studio class over the course of 8 months by Harrison Verrios, Oneeb Bin Nauman, Yunshu Sh...

Hey everyone, Xavier here! I’m the one responsible for all the sound effects in our game and currently working on creating a list of background music for our game. While the artists have been busy with their art, I was working on two new BGMs; one being the new Slum Area, and the other for a boss fight. The boss fight one hasn’t been finished yet but it’ll hopefully be done once we have finished our new level. Here’s the BGM for the Slum Area. Check it out.
What are your thoughts about the music style?

Hi everyone, Maggie here! I'm one of the artists and game designers for Fall of the Machinae. Our team has been continuously working on improving the art and visuals for our game. This is what I've done recently for one of the main enemies, Humanoid. On the left is the old animation and on the right is the new design without the black borders. What do you think of the new change?

For the past two months, the team has been working on the Game Design Document; a collection of artwork, narratives and designs that showcases what the game will include by December 2020. We're finally back to continuing the development of Fall of the Machinae! 😁

Lots more changes coming through very soon, stay tuned for more updates and check out the splash screen our pixel artists made for the game! 🔥

Fall of the Machinae began as a university final year project, as a group of 4 game-development students had ambitions to develop and publish a game.

The game is set in a dark, dystopian future, where the world is populated mostly by the Machinae; a race comprised of androids, machines and artificial intelligence. It follows the story of Kevlar, a war veteran in search of his daughter, Eliza, who was taken away from him by the Machinae.

Fall of the Machinae differs from most Metroidvanias because you cannot directly attack your enemies. Instead, its core mechanic has centred around "hacking" into certain functions of enemies and using that temporary control to strategically work your way through the areas of the game.

We started the game as a prototype under the name 'Project: Hack', in which we developed this trailer. More details coming soon.
