Hobart Jazz Club Inc A club devoted to Jazz, Jazz Musicians and lovers of Jazz music. Promoting Australian Jazz and Jazz in Tasmania.

The Hobart Jazz Club was originally formed in the mid 1940’s by a small group of Jazz enthusiasts to promote local jazz musicians and to import mainland bands. In 1961, it was incorporated as the “Jazz Action Society of Tasmania”
and then later returned to its former name, “Hobart Jazz Club”, in 2004. A bi-monthly newsletter keeps members informed of what is happening around the state. Life Member

We are Moving!
After some months of searching for a new home, we are very pleased to announce we have found a new venue - the private upstairs function room at the Queens Head Hotel, 400 Elizabeth St N Hobart.
• More space
• A dedicated dance floor
• Private bar facilities
• Meals available from the Queens Head menu
From July onward, the Club moves to the second Wednesday of each month.
Our first night at the Queens Head will be:
Wednesday 8 July from 7:00 PM
Featuring the evergreen Wahbash Avenue — a band that needs no introduction.

Hi there music lovers!

We would like to extend a warm invitation to you to attend our next Timeless Jazz Sessions – Jazzy July on Friday 3 July at The Timeless Way, Kingston.

This special evening will feature a talented quartet of musicians presenting a wonderful selection of music inspired by some of the most celebrated names in jazz and popular music.

Drawing inspiration from artists including Harry Connick Jr., Jamie Cullum, Frank Sinatra and more, the performance will celebrate the timeless appeal of jazz-inspired music in a relaxed and intimate live setting.

Whether you are a long-time jazz enthusiast or simply looking for an enjoyable evening out with family and friends, Jazzy July promises a memorable night filled with great music, delicious food and warm hospitality.

Adams – Double Bass

Together, these musicians will present an evening of live music featuring vocals, piano, guitar and double bass, bringing classic and contemporary jazz influences to life.



About the Music

The evening will draw inspiration from a variety of jazz and jazz-influenced artists whose music continues to captivate audiences around the world.

From the sophisticated charm of Frank Sinatra, to the modern energy of Jamie Cullum and the distinctive style of Harry Connick Jr., Jazzy July will celebrate music that has become timeless across generations.

Dinner Orders Taken: 6:30pm – 7:00pm

First Set: 7:00pm – 8:00pm

Intermission: 8:00pm – 8:30pm

Second Set: 8:30pm – 9:30pm

Derek Grice
Derek is a Woodwind (Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute) specialist and performs in numerous ensembles in a wide range of genres. He plays casually with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and has performed in the orchestras of countless Tasmanian musical and theatre productions.
Derek is also an inaugural member of the Matt Ives Big Band and is also a "Trad Jazz" clarinet specialist. He teaches individual and group lessons at numerous private schools in Hobart including The Hutchins school, St Michael Collegiate and Sacred Heart College.
One of his latest adventures is playing Sax and Flute in the 1970/80's Yacht Rock band "Baby Come Tack".
