The urgent search for 5-year-old Saylor Hayes has come to a heartbreaking end.

According to the information provided, authorities confirmed that Saylor’s body was recovered following an intensive search involving hundreds of people, first responders and multiple agencies.

Agents with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources reportedly located Saylor at approximately 9:45 a.m. in the water near the area where she had last been seen.

Saylor had wandered away from a rental home in the Hagley Estates area of Pawleys Island, triggering an urgent and extensive search to bring the little girl home.

The surrounding community also responded in an extraordinary way.

Hundreds of residents reportedly helped search properties and surrounding areas, while others watched docks and waterways as authorities continued their efforts.

So many people were hoping, searching and praying for Saylor to be found safe.

And still, Jhorden reportedly remained in his father’s care.

According to investigators, Ware became enraged after the 4-year-old wet the bed and brought Skittles into it. A child witness reportedly described seeing Ware kick and stomp on Jhorden.

When relatives eventually found the little boy, investigators said there was blood on his bed, pillow, floor and doorway.

Then Jhorden began having seizures.

He was rushed to the hospital.

He did not survive. 💔

According to reports about the autopsy, Jhorden suffered devastating injuries and severe physical neglect, including blunt-force trauma, a fractured chest wall, a lacerated liver, evidence of strangulation, severe malnutrition and dehydration, along with burns, scars and bruising.

𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐘 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐑.

Four years old.

Still young enough to reach for his mother when he was frightened.

Still young enough to need adults to protect him.

Still young enough to believe someone would come when he needed help.

Reports surrounding the case also raised painful questions about the response before Jhorden’s death. Police reportedly viewed the custody dispute as a civil matter, DHS reportedly screened out a complaint, and a judge reportedly denied his mother’s request for a restraining order approximately one week before Jhorden died.

Then, in July 2026, Ware reportedly accepted a plea agreement and received a 10-year sentence.

Ten years.

Jhorden lost an entire lifetime.

Every birthday he should have celebrated.

Every first day of school.

Every Christmas morning.

Every friendship he should have made.

Every dream he never had the chance to grow old enough to chase.

And perhaps one of the most heartbreaking parts of this case is that, according to the account provided, Jhorden’s mother had been raising concerns for weeks.
