~THE TICKET DRAW~
Tickets are sold as $5 each. All proceeds from the ticket sales go into the prize pool. The more tickets that are sold, the greater the starting prize pool.
At the Calcutta, a ticket is drawn for each runner in the Melbourne Cup. If your ticket is drawn out, you become “the Drawer” and “own” that horse ahead of the auction stage! Once all of the horses are drawn, the auction begins.
~THE AUCTION~
Each horse will be auctioned, and everyone at the Calcutta has the opportunity to bid for each horse. When a horse sells in the auction, “the Drawer” gets 50% of the sale price, and the remaining 50% goes into the prize pool. If “the Drawer” wants to buy their horse, they pay only HALF the ‘bidded value’ which goes into the prize pool. The highest bidder in the auction stage becomes the new owner of that horse. The fiercer the bidding, the bigger the prize pool in the end! Successful bidders must pay in cash for their horses after the auction is finished.
