FIELDWORK FRIDAY!!!!! Spring has without a doubt SPRUNG!! 🌸🌷🍀🌼🪻🌾

I can’t say the exactttt location of this weeks fieldwork location, for reasons 👀, BUT I discovered the most froggy pond ever seen!! I kept the audio on for this one so you guys can hear them all!

My main focus was gathering a bunch of wildflowers so that I can pop them in my press and use as specimens later on.

Also gathered a bit of indigo for some pigment extraction, that’s what I’m holding in slide 10.

Last two slides are some cute lil guys I came across during my book week visit to Stroud!

I’m still on the hunt for more wildflowers. Please drop a comment if you’ve spotted any roadsides, soccer fields, bike tracks, etc that are getting a lot of flower action! I wanna know!

Cyas next week ✨✨✨

Some little WIP shots from my desk 🌸 🐚 🌱

I’m trying to desensitise myself by posting messy unfinished works!! So here’s an art dump

What should I do with all of these pressed flowers?? I put them in the press a whole year ago, they’re cosmos from my garden at my old rental!

Second slide, I’m saving a few spring specimens for future seasonal work. Third slide is Bailey doing her usual job as a studio assistant, warming my paper.

Some indigo in a bucket, and a sparkly rainbow ammonite wip!

Guys…. It has been so long that we’ve nearly skipped a whole season….

everyone, say it with me: FIELD 👏 WORK 👏 FRIDAY 👏 ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

Squeezing in a Takarir/Winter entry because idk if u all have noticed, but spring has definitely come early!! Today I went for an adventure around my new neighbourhood, I found a secret lil reserve behind Charlestown golf club.

Today had all my favourite things!! Red sap, wildflowers, squiggly bark, AND FOSSILS!!!! (also my gf).

That rock at the end was just a random one I picked up to be used as a paperweight situation, but when I got home and had a closer look I realised that I found a Glossopteris fossil!!!! I’m CONSTANTLY looking for these guys- but this was my first time ever actually finding one! I guess the secret is to stop trying too hard??

Anyways! I’m back on my research and you guys should expect more weekly posts like this for now on yippee!! 🍃 🪨 🌳 ✨ 🐚

Just in case you guys didn’t see my earlier post where I was showing off my drawing I did about loving bo***es and/or seabirds.

Inspired by Miss Coco, the famous Marks Point Cocos B***y who has been making WAVES in the bird nerd community.

I just realised that I never properly posted this guy on my insta! So I gave him a quick makeover- from zine-cover to exhibition promo!

There’s nothing more tough and edgy than an Aus gothic-style Arnotts parrot, holding a box of weird looking crackers. Hoping to get this guy printed up using riso or something for the exhibition!

12th September - 1st November, Lighthouse Arts, Newcastle, be there or be square 👀🦜 🚬

I also had fun making all these lil assets to be used in a poster, wouldn’t they make fun sticker packs???!!!! Let us know if you reckon I should put something together 👀

NEW HOME NEW JOURNAL SPREAD AT LAST!!!!! I hope u guys like my brand new leafy background…

We sure did skip a few seasonal journal entries these past few months 😳😳😳 but I promise you guys I’m back with a vengeance!!

I have decided I’m gonna be a BRAVE girl and start posting a bit more personal/writing stuff… just promise me ur not looking at it too hard bc its a bit embarrassing putting myself out there 😫😫

The time I’ve had off from making and posting art has been super refreshing!! And has helped me find a few direction that I want to start heading in.

This spread feels extra special, I’ve rediscovered an old gift, which feels like the start of something new!

Thanks granddad!! I couldn’t use your tools for my honours, but I’m gonna do my best to use them for my PhD, I reckon you would have been stoked about that.

LOOK BUT DONT TOUCH - Journal entry finally complete! This was meant to be something quick, but I got carried away and ended up scanning it and giving it a digital clean-up, so it can now be used as a proper print in the future! I think we all need a great big reminder of what our most deadly local marine animal looks like, hung up on our walls to etch it into our brains!😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️.

I loveeee the shapes and patterns octopuses are able to contort themselves into, and I think their ability to change colours AND TEXTURES to camouflage is sososo cool. This piece is based on a blue lined octopus I spotted around Speers Point, which unfortunately I got WAY too close to because I didn’t know they weren’t always blue 😳😳.

Painted using charcoal, river rocks, acrylic and white gouache, in the Autumn season on Awabakal Country. 🐙 ✨
