What a week… and an absolute privilege!
First and foremost I want to say thank you to the Yingarra and Malgana peoples of the Gascoyne Region in Western Australia and GreenCollar. As one of the representatives for the Gawler Ranges, I was invited to be part of an on Country gathering at Wooramel River Retreat this past week - where I was invited to run an art workshop.
To sit on Country and be in the company of Yingarra and Malgana Elders, Leaders and Rangers is something I will never ever forget. The way these people were so willing to share their culture and knowledge, is a privilege I will cherish for the rest of my life. Your Country is absolutely breathtaking, and being able to see it first hand with the people who know it best is incredibly invaluable! Also, GreenCollar… thank you so much! I have no words big enough to comprehend how much I’ve appreciated this opportunity!
After visiting Wooramel, we made our way down and back up to beautiful Shark Bay…. And man oh man! What an experience! You literally made a little girls dream come true! I’ve been wanting to go to Monkey Mia since I was 8 years old… it took me 32 years… but I got there! Finally!
During my time at Wooramel and Shark Bay… I felt my father with me. This hasn’t happened for a couple of years now… but the sense of pride and protection I felt from him is something very familiar yet bittersweet. To represent my Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfathers Country the Gawler Ranges is something I’ll forever be proud of!
I have no other words to describe this experience… only to say, that I will never ever forget this trip for the rest of my life.
