Homo Faber 2026
I have been commissioned by the Geneva based, Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, to create a stained glass exhibition piece for the ‘Twenty Silent Songs’ exhibition which will be the feature exhibition of the Homo Faber Bienniale 2026 (https://www.homofaber.com/en/biennial/homofaber-2026). The exhibition will be presented in the historic buildings and cloisters of Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, Italy from 1st to 30th September 2026 (https://www.cini.it/en/).
The Bienniale showcases global excellence in hand made artefacts and features the work of over 400 artisans exhibiting over 800 inspiring objects.
For centuries the cloister has been a place of silent prayer and study for the Benedictine monks for whom Palladio designed it. The Benedictine monks who pray and live here today still respond to the regular calls to prayer from the cathedral bells between 7am and 9pm.
The ‘Twenty Silent Songs’ exhibition will be staged in the cloister and feature 20 rectangular stone panels each cut with a simple circular form. These circular apertures invite a series of interventions from 20 artisans - each interpreting a drawing by artistic director, the acclaimed British artist and set designer, Es Devlin. (https://esdevlin.com/), The drawings are based on cymatic frequency patterns derived from the sound of each of the 20 bells.
The 20 exhibiting artisans from 20 different countries work in 20 different mediums, so I will be representing both Australia and the medium of stained glass in general.
