Experience the heat and risk of raku and smoke firing

Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, 10am-4pm

Mark Mason and Ella Hughes bring you this very special alternative firing event!

We will explore naked and horse hair raku in the gas raku kilns, plus smoke firing in our outdoor wood fire.

To participate you will need to bring 5-8 pieces, highly burnished and already bisque fired.

Wanna make a Teapot?

Our Teapot Masterclass is on Sunday at 10am, 14 and 21 June.

Katherine Myers will take you through all the steps to create a wheel thrown teapot from start to finish.
You'll design your teapot, throw the body, spout and lid, make a handle and in the second session you'll trim and assemble your pot. You might have time to decorate your teapot with underglaze or carving.
Price includes clay, glazes & firing of 1 teapot.

Level of experience required: some - you must be able to throw a medium size bowl on the wheel.

Our Glaze Craft 2 workshops starts on Thursday 28 May at 6pm.

The Glaze Craft series builds knowledge over the year.

In Glaze Craft Two we will explore:
- Making your own glaze from a recipe
- Make and use linear test tiles
- Colourants, opacifiers and additives
- Measuring the results of your glaze

Price includes clay, colourants, glaze & firing 6 pieces.

Level of experience required: some - can you make simple pieces for glaze tests?

myers.ceramics will take you through this special masterclass and all the steps to create a wheel thrown teapot from start to finish, over two weekends.

Sunday 14 and 21 June.

In the first session, you will design your teapot, throw the body, spout and lid and make a handle.

On Sunday 7 June, join for this special Raku Masterclass...

Mark Mason brings his portable gas Raku kilns to Castlemaine Clay for a very special firing event!

To participate in this firing you will need to bring 2-4 pieces, burnished and bisque fired.

Price includes presentation, demonstration, glazes & firing 2-4 pieces in the Raku kiln (time dependent).

Level of experience required: some - you must make work and have it bisque fired for the event.
