In ‘At This Point’ by Liliana Barbieri, the artist uses hexagonal forms as a ‘playful disruption of the ubiquitous square.’

Central to this body of work are the ideas of Bruno Munari (1907–1998), renowned Milanese designer, whose ‘Sculture Pieghevoli’ (‘Foldable Sculptures’) also rejected the static square canvas in favour of a dynamic and light design that could be packed, transported and unfolded elsewhere. Barbieri was also inspired by Munari’s ‘Libri Illegibili’ ('Illegible Books') that he designed for his son, which featured colours, shapes and textures, and not a single word.

Through her work, Barbieri intends to ‘play with our fixed notions of what art actually is and how it reiterates in every aspect of our existence.’

‘Parallel Visions’ is showing at Town Hall Gallery until Saturday 13 August. View the exhibition online and find out more via the link in our bio.
