Five decades of Australian art music

Since 1969, La Mama Theatre has provided a vital space for music, sound and ideas that don’t fit the pub or the concert hall. As well as the hundreds of artists who’ve collaborated on productions as composers, sound designers and performers, Melbourne’s home for independent theatre has supported a curated concert series showcasing boundary-pushing artists, and amplifying ideas that deserve to be heard.

It’s been a minute, but we’re still here, and ready to get back to grassroots… Sunday June 14, 7.30pm is the return of MUSICA EXPLORATIONS! We are up for Some Whack S**t, and we want YOU to be part of it. EXPERIMENTAL music/sound/noise/performance/installation…. What would you do in this old courthouse? How do we deal with a place like this? We want art that breaks the rules, that pushes the boundaries, that tests something new, that’s seeking something unknown. This will be a profit-share event, and open to anyone to apply. Quick n dirty set ups, short 5-15 minute acts, or you might have an installation or participatory project… whatever your idea, try us! Send a two sentence description of your idea and a link to your work, to [email protected] by Friday 15 May, 5pm.
