I am absolutely thrilled to have the burlesque powerhouse De Jac joining us from Naarm (Melbourne).
Cryptid chameleon royalty of the Australian Burlesque Industry, human party-popper, and powerhouse art maker; Bella de Jac has been crowned Mx Burlesque Australia 2015, and named twice in the top 50 most influential burlesque performers in the world.
As a respected and established art maker, chaos creator and educator, with a love for the origins of Burlesque as both satire and of st******se, Bella is as accomplished in their impossibly glamorous strip-acts, as they are in creating absolutely bonkers performance art.
With a frankly, quite silly number of awards and accolades too numerous to list, they’ve been invited to perform at the Burlesque Hall of Fame competition in Las Vegas, and headlined the Australian Burlesque Festival, Perth International Burlesque Festival and New Zealand Burlesque Festival.
This year while tending to a cohort of solo performance mentees, their busy schedule has them touring all over Australia with “Liquored Up Late”, “SMUT”, regular appearances at beloved Melbourne venue “Hail Lilith”, and the upcoming third season as magic making, whip-cracking “Burlesque” babe with smash hit sideshow “Le Freak” in this years Melbourne Fringe Festival. They also co-produce “Season of The Witch” and “The Witching Hour” alongside Whisky Falls through Weird Aunts Creative.
Bella has a special affinity for monsters, creatures, and humans who subvert expectations, and they create a space for both audiences and students that is equal measures sensual, playful, insightful, and free of inhibition. Expanding their work into performance art education in practice, theory and socio-political perspectives from their roots in Burlesque and st******se. In a 2019 performance tour across the UK they caused a stir with their introductory lecture on Burlesque history and the social politics of st******se at New College in Oxford. Demonstrating that even talking about stripping away clothes has a knack for revealing more than just skin.
When Bella is not upsetting the status quo they also work behind the scenes as outside eye & direction for stage, stage manage, produce, write, and dream.
